Foil or Gold?

teak

New member
I use a Eclipse DD 6 x 10 with my MXT, I never dig the foil, but recently heard that sometimes if it is showing as foil on the MXT it could be gold in the ground? is this correct? and what if it were a gold coin? Thanks for any help!

I have not found any gold coins with a foil reading but I have found some jewelery under foil reading although not a lot. I don't dig foil reading all the time but once in awhile I will just to make sure. Usually foil reading turn out to be just that, FOIL. Like they say you never know for sure unless you dig it. Most definitely it could be a gold ring, earring, etc. I've pulled a 14K ring out with a VDI as low as 6. It was a child's ring size 1. If you're wanting to dig ONLY gold. Good luck! If you don't dig every good signal reading, you won't get the gold. Readings on the VDI all vary from one piece of gold to another depending on the size and weight. Larry's found gold that was in the upper 60's. There's no sure way to know if it's gold or not. Just dig it all! Throw your junk away in the trash can so you or someone else doesn't have to deal with it again! HH to all and good luck, Nancy

Thanks for the replies. If I actually come across anything gold it would be a bonus, I am having fun finding the old coins and recently just dug my 3rd civil war bullet! So I am happy, just don't want to miss anything! :detecting:

I have also dug a 36 diamond bracelet with a VDI of +2. The detector was getting a reading on each segment of the bracelet.

It could be gold from 0 to 80 on the VDI....................

I talked to a fellow here in town and found out that he had some gold coins, so I asked if I could check something out.
The whole lot of them read in the mid 50s and showed screw cap.
