Foam handle blues

Steve from Ohio

New member
Every time I go out with the E-Trac, I end up spending more time cleaning the foam handle than any other part. I usually have to spray the foam handle with a cleaner in order to get it looking like new again.

I ended up going to Wal Mart and getting an adhesive backed padded tennis racket wrap for less than 3 bucks. I got the one without the little holes in it because those little holes collect dirt. I wrapped it around the foam handle and it really makes a difference.

It cleans up so fast now and it really is more comfortable than the foam handle alone.

I also like to use Pledge furniture wax on the screen, control box and the coil and shaft. The wax allows for water to bead off and helps with cleaning when I wipe it down with a damp rag.

Here is a pic of the handle wrap.

Good hint on using the Pledge furniture wax on the screen. That's an old motorcycle trick used because it works great on plastic/lexan wind screens.

NOTE: It should be noted to those that don't own motorcycles.....never use Rain-X on a plastic screen. It will defiantly turn it yellow over time. Pledge is safe to use though.

I use Vet Wrap and every so often I just unwrap it and put some more on.

That way the original foam always remains like new.:clap:Jerry

I use a baggie and wrap it around the handle with electrical tape doesn't stick to to the foam and cleans up easily and always use a rain cover HH RonC

Nice wrap Steve. I also use a screen protector for digital cameras that you cut to size for the screen. If you get it laid on there right, there won't be any bubbles under it. Thanks for the wrap tip.

What is Vet wrap, is that like ace bandage??

Vet Wrap is a 3M product. It is used by Veterinarians for animals to wrap wounds with. It is waterproof and it sticks to itself but not to fur. It is good stuff, but, it I don't think it is thick enough to add to the feel of the E-Trac.

I like the Tennis racket grip because it has some extra padding and makes the grip that much more comfortable. It adds some extra padding to the grip and makes it more comfortable at least for me anyways.

It too can be removed easily by heating ever so slightly with a hand held hair dryer. But it can be permanent if you want it to be.

I have some silicon super tape I bought from Deluth Trading Co. It does not have glue, it bonds to itself. I wrapped my tiller foam handle which was deteriorating and it has held up well. It gets a good work out on a tiller.

It gets its name from use in bandaging animals legs.

I use the 4" wide type and although not sticky it will stay in place.

I use it as if I were bandaging a horses injured leg.

It comes in various colours and just unwraps when it gets grubby and you need remove it.

Iam sure your vets in the USA use it as doe ours in the UK.

Best of Luck. Jerry.
