Flying with the AT Pro

Hi everyone. In two weeks, I'll be taking a trip to Northern California, and I'd like to take my new AT Pro along. I will be flying United, and was wondering if anyone here has flown with their detector recently. I'm mostly concerned about TSA rules, since I'd like to take mine in my carry-on luggage (don't want it getting lost/stolen out of checked bags). Any advice on how to pack the detector and avoid problems at security would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have not flown with my detector yet but will be the end of the month. check the TSA website as I beleive they have a limit of 7" on any tools. I plan on taking the brains and headphones in my carry on and putting the coil and shafts in my checkin bags to be safe. i was also going to label the coil as a metal detecting coil. No telling what they will think about that coil but I don't want to give them an excuse to take it. like they need one.

[size=large]for sure you want the question settled and in writing if possible.TSA folks are just drones. don't have to think. just obay if you get permission , get it in writing from someone that can't be over ruled by some ding dong supervisor with a god complex. might be better and just as cheap to ship it to where ever your going and call ahead and let someone know it's coming. third day air would be about $35.00 ups.

Abcoin, since you are going in two weeks, take a look at shipping it via UPS instead. I went to England last November to detect and I asked the hotel I was going to stay in if I could send a box to them to hold for me. They said yes and shipping avoided a whole bunch of problems. UPS took care of the paperwork for international shipping and everything and it was waiting for me when I arrived. Since you are traveling domestic the cost to ship will not be prohibitive, I do not think, and you can have it waiting for your arrival. Check it out, it might be an option that works for you. And no, I do not work for UPS or any shipping company. This option was suggested to me and it worked out great. All you need is an address to ship to that is not a box number. Good luck! I flew from Memphis to Orlando back in Mar. and had no problems. I had the detector broken down and carried it on the plane. The screener even knew what it was as she asked me if I was going to hunt for gold and when I said yes, she wished me good luck. HH jim tn
