and gonna bring the gear. I would like to do some beach hunting on York beach, ME. I plan on breaking down the detector and bagging it as carry on. The scoop which is a travel aluminum scoop I guess is gonna go in luggage. I don't think they'll let me carry that on. Anyone have any experience traveling with their gear?

I take the scoop apart and tie the scoop handle and detector shaft sections together then place them in the checked suitcase. I wrap the scoop head and lip with bubble wrap and secure with clear packaging tape (and pack the tape for rewrapping) and place in checked suitcase. I take the batteries out of the detector, then pack the coil(s), control box and batteries in carry on bag such as laptop case or carry on bag with a copy of the detector manual. I have never had any issues flying within US or Mexico or Carribean. Some batteries (such as for the Whites TDI Pro) must be placed in carry on, or risk being confiscated if found in luggage. HH.
