I've got about 5 hard months on the CTX mostly working in the water and just wanted to start a thread on the tones made by this detector. Today I was lucky and scored on an 18-20k 2.5 gram ring with a unique design. The target sounded of like a flute playing midtones, no high tones no low tones.... needless to say I was quite happy with that target. My thought process on the flute like sounds the CTX created was due to the design (of the ring) and the machine hitting off of the ridges/edges in the ring, much like the light reflecting off of the out of focus picture below, does that sound likely? I've noticed similar flute like tones when digging sunglasses, bottle caps, wads of foil and can slaw and have contributed this to the machine hitting off of the ragged edges of the item BUT I've also found you have to be careful with low tone/mid/high tones because it could be two different targets in close proximity causing a similar tone. Is this something that is common with others and your machines?
Presently, I'm running with a wide open screen, 5 tones combined, long response, manual 25-29 (whatever conditions allow), seawater on and everything else off.
