Took to a field today adjacent to where Revolutionary war soldiers camped out. The area is now a recreation area, and I stayed away from the soccer/ball fields, and kept to near the mosquito infested wetlands. Near the woods, and near the property line of the nearest home, the area had been used a an auto graveyard years back, as evidenced by the volume of 50's and 60's era chrome and crap in the ground. About an hour into my hunt, I got a sweet sounding 12/44, with plenty of evident iron around it as shown by the target trace, and smart screen single pixels of color. At about 6 inches came out this sad early large cent, the reverse shows "one cent" and a wreath, and on the front, not able to be seen by my lacking photographic skills, can be made out the ribbon in the hair of the woman facing to the right. Not a great coin condition wise, but I know I'll be back to this site soon....HH

Also, 2+ hours with the rechargeable battery and no shutdowns yet.

Nice find!! It looks to me that it is an clipped planchet error coin.

John, my son said the same thing, too bad it is so toasted. The ground is not usually kind to 200 year old copper up here :( I'll just have to go back and get the same vintage in silver:rofl:

Yep, ditto for me here too. I would definitely go back.

Nice find. Many of the old coppers I find are in similar shape.
It does look like a clippet planchet.
It is always exciting to see the old green copper oxide in the dirt when you are digging a signal. I never get tired of that!

Congrats on the recovery and thanks for the report. Good to hear the CTX 3030 is working for you in the iron. Finding a coin of the Rev period is highly unlikely back here. About the time this part of the Country was being settled, Lincoln was on the campaign trail! HH Randy
