Florida restrictions

Saw this story this morning. I guess Florida may be a tough place to go to metal detect. It's to bad. Everything old doesn't have to be in a museum, does it??? And not everything old is a treasure!! I think all of the different TV shows on metal detecting may have a negative effect on the hobby and may end up hurting the hobby in the end! It seems that the universal feelings about the hobby is that we, detectorists, are robbing the country of it's national treasure. I guess the powers that be would rather have the targets, items, stay in the ground and wait for who knows how long before the archy's dig it up. I don't think I've seen any article expressing the good side of metal detecting, from a state or city representative, except from other detectorists or someone who has had a item returned to them that had been lost.
Sorry for the rant!

So, there we have it, a married couple for 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60 years, one of them lost a ring in the surf, and now it's lost forever, as you can't go get it / look for it using a metal detector, what a joke !

Rules and more rules, when will it end ? ....... There seems to be a one sided thing going on here, the arch's and the cronies in high places have taken this too far now. Glad I don't live in Florida.

We need to find a way to highlight the hobby in a better light, it seems that these shows that have been and are on TV of late are not doing a good job at this. A more down to earth, and more detailed show is what is needed, more stories of finds that have been returned to the owners and so on. The public need not fear us, and most of all, we help those that have lost something of value, be it money terms or sentimental terms in value or both.

Going around and acting like a child on TV is not the way to act in this hobby when something is found in the ground, save it for off camera. The dialog is also wrong, 'roundness' ! What the heck ?!

:ranting:

If anyone knows of a producer that is willing to put a show together the right way, PM me with his / her details and I'd be glad to offer any info / help that they need to pull this off the correct way.

those shows are killing metal detecting hobbyist's. people think everybody is pulling "treasure" out of the ground. it started with "american diggers". nobody would be interested in a toned down truthful show because it would be boring.

I'm not hooked on the ideal of the shows screwing things up. I'm more for the ideals of the savage Co. Putting there finds in the news and making the state of Florida start to cry about when their cut is gonna clear the bank. T v is t v it's like a crack head saying,... Well there goes my job and hobby because of that Damn show COPS

I here you the only way it will change is if you vote them ALL out of office enough with all the professional lawyers , what better way to flees the sheeple than knowing the law inside and out , goes to show you that they know how to get away with anything because they know the law. Get some farmers and common people in there and it will change 1 term only. So nobody in office has time to rob us blind .blah blah blah sube

Who's enforcing these "laws" anyway? If a cop in Florida actually tried to enforce this I would give them a HUGE ration of shit all the way to jail! What a WASTE of tax payer money even bringing this to the table! Gawd that pisses me off! Florida you should be ashamed!

The Florida coastline belongs to the taxpayers. Sure there are a few areas off limits because of lease agreements but for the most part public beaches are still being detected everyday. If you have something or do something that a few other people do not do or have they think you shouldn't have it or do it. Always been that way and will continue. Keep on swinging and may the detector blessings be upon you. HH :minelab:

I just spoke with Gary Drayton and he said this is completely FALSE! He said this reporter called him and he's Argentinian and this story was made up to sell newspapers! I told Gary he should file a lawsuit for these guys dragging his name thru there crap story!! Anyhow just thought you guys should know!! Have a good one swing low and slow!!

Bav24502, Thanx for the revealing "out of context" info. It seemed like some odd quotes. Because, as is ordinarilly known, detecting is routinely going on at the beaches there (and not sure if anyone really needs to "go ask at each kiosk he comes to, blah blah as the article seems to say is necessary). Even the fellow being interviewed himself is ....... obviously .... hunting beaches (even currently I mean). And ..... GASP, finding an occasional old coin (say it isn't so!! ).

As far as laws and rules, sure, there's always going to be places to "watch your step". And sure , if you ask enough archies "can I?" they'll screech as if you'd just asked if you could sleep with their wife. But what did you expect asking an archie? That's a little like asking a P.E.T.A. rep if you can leave your pet bunny in the car while you run into a 7-11 to get a soda. They'd screech about how you can be arrested for animal cruelty, your car confiscated, fined, etc... But .... go figure ... what did you expect to come from an animal rights wacko advocate? So too do I put little stock in what some archies say.
