does anyone know if you can beach hunt in the keys ,any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can beach hunt you just can't be out snorkeling with the machine. Wading is a subjective issue, technically your not supposed to but usually no one bothers you.

From what I've heard. Most of the waters in the Keys is designated an Archaeological site due to all the wreck sites.

I've detected while snorkling numerous times in Keys with no problems

You can detect anywhere in or out of the water unless someone has a claim to an area such as the Atocha site, or state park. Even on private property or park you can detect up to the high water line.Keep in mind that there are few "beaches" in the keys, it's mostly rock or coral.

went there a couple of years ago. hunted a little in the water. not much luck. the sand is brought in from miami and there are about 3-4 beaches. All pretty small.. not my favorite pplace......for detecting

Ricky, try Smathers beach it is near the airport , public and very busy year round with tourist. Have had some luck their in the past. Good luck!!

You have been lucky. Florida law states that you can not be in the water with a metal detector unless you are diving on a state issued lease or diving under lease for the lease holder.
