Florida beach detecting.

El

Active member
My wife and I are starting an RV road trip next week to mainly visit our grand daughter in Texas. I told my wife I would like to continue on to Florida and hopefully detect some of the beaches. This will most likely be my one and only chance to detect in Florida. Age is creeping up real fast(74 now).

I would really like to detect some of the more productive treasure beaches and hopefully find one coin or artifact . Not looking to get rich, just would like to find something old and have fun.

So can anyone point me in the right direction and give me some advice on where to hunt with out getting in trouble. I know there are laws on what beaches to hunt and how far you can go in the water but am not sure.

Appreciate any information.

Thanks , El

Also find something along the way your wife wants to do.... Her Dream........ Memories of the trip will be awesome no matter the treasure found. The journey may be the best treasure...... for both of you........

Have a nice visit with your grand-daughter.

Well if you're interested in hunting the Treasure coast, east coast of Florida, I would look in to an RV park in Melbourne Beach or Sebastian, Florida. From there you have access to the Wabasso Beach area (Read the book "Shipwrecks Near Wabasso Beach" by Robert "Frogfoot" Weller and Earnie "Seascribe" Richards). This will give you a quick dose of local knowledge.
In Melbourne Beach there is a newly issued search lease for a possible missing 1715 ship thought to be the 'Concepcion. A salvage boat is on sight, might be interesting.

You can also visit the McClartey Treasure museum on A1A in Sebastian and the Mel Fisher treasure museum on US1 in Sebastian township.

Have your wife look in to activities in Vero Beach, Florida if she prefers to not detect the beach.

Good Luck

A1A is a nice OLD Fl drive. I think shed like a day in St Augustine..... lots to see and some great food. I wouldnt get any high expectations of finding OLD treasure with the sanded in conditions..... also its a chore to hunt in the surf. That side of the island does have more restrictions in some locations where the recks are. For the most part you can hunt up to the high tide line anywhere, some state parks allow beach hunting but no water hunting. If you are wet or dry sand hunting you shouldnt have a problem. Honestly inland relic hunting could produce better finds...... but there you can bet there are more restrictions and permission needed.

Google "The Treasure Beaches Report brought to you from Florida's Treasure Coast" for some great info...I would have put the link in but I don't tink you are allowed to do that here at this site.
