I know, I know, the question of new detector models from Garrett is asked too often.. but I gotta ask anyway. Actually, I'm interested in a hybrid gold/relic/coin detector with some gold specific functions. It's about time Garrett did something about the Gold Stinger; it's (in my mind at least) a bit of an embarrassment. I had to go out and buy another (used) MXT for the spring/summer 'cause Garrett doesn't have anything decent to complement my Infinium on the claims. ...Willy.

If I were to buy another box, it would be an ultra
deep relic machine of some kind. I'm too far away from
gold country to do that much. :( If I get the large
coil for the 250, it would be ok, but it would still
be nice to have a 12-15 inch "coins" machine for the hardcore
stuff. I fiqure the large coil might bump the ace 250
to maybe 10 inches? on coins.. I've been meaning to
test how far the ace will detect larger objects.
IE: toolbox size, etc...Should be 2-3 feet at least..
Maybe more. I ran into a friend of mine yesterday. His
family owns about 100 acres up near Caldwell TX. I've
been up there once. It's got a pond on it, and we get
some good fish out of it. Anyway, it's got an abandoned
house on it. I remember it from the last time I was there.
It had been there from the earlier 1900's at least.
He wants to go out there fishing, and I'll take yeller
feller if we go. He wanted to go this weekend, but it's
another rainer... I'm hoping to see some old coins
maybe...Maybe some weird relics too. I still also have
the torn down house in AR, but thats 430 miles away, and
may be a while before I can get up there. BTW, they say the
wild hogs are taking over that land up at Caldwell, so I'll
probably need to take me a hand cannon in case one wants
to make my day. Those things can tear you up if they get
mad, and get a tusk into you. Probably rattle snakes around
there too. All I got is a .410 shotgun...I think I'll borrow
a pistol from the guy I work with. He's got loads of guns...
I think a .357 oughta work... :) I want something that will
sit a hog right on his heiney with no backtalk... :) The 410
would just make em angry, unless I had a slug or sumtin..:ranting:

The last deer I brought home was with a .357, it went right through his heart, he continued to walk for about 30 seconds, then laid down. 1) a deer doesn't have a bad attitude, 2) a LOT can happen in 30 seconds. Bring something bigger!! By the way I dont own the .357 any more, I traded it in on an 8" .44. I am not trying to be morbid or anything, I just don't want the "bacon" to eat you!!

with the shortest barrel you can legally get will stop anything, or a bunch of anythings. That's what we used up in Alaska for Griz. bear (OO, slug,OO, slug, OO). ..Willy.

There are a lot of us waiting too. Garrett is also very tight-lipped about any of their new machines. Even the couple of rumors that started floating around the last couple of years so far have turned out to be false (so far). They are still having unbelievable sales on the ACE Series, and I bet the sales of the higher end machines are way up. Using the new coil on the GTI 1500 kinda makes the machine feeland operate like a new one. Garrett is in the beginnings of a "know your size before you dig campaign". Probably, when you least expect it, they will surprise us with a new green or yellow baby!

try comanche 45 colt 410 single shot pistol. cost about $170.00 good for snakes and with the 45 colt cartridge for hogs

How about a infinium with target ID and sizing like the 1500 and 2500
That would set the multiple frequency world on fire. No other detector out there could do that. Not minelab or whites.

unless they were the 2 legged kind. Still prefer the 12 guage though. Fire a slug from that puppy and it will drop near anything now living. Not the greatest for distance/accuracy, but it's usually close in anyway. On the other hand, a load of OO doesn't rquire much in the way of aiming. You could clear out a whole bunch of wild pigs in no time flat. Just keep firing. ..Willy.

Yeah I wish they would come out with a 250 and boost the frequency up to about 15-17, install a no-motion all metal and manual GB, and stick an elliptical DD coil on it. What a machine that would be.

How does your Infinium work for you. I know a gal in Southern California who is an absolute nugget killer with her Infinium with mono coil. She has found a ton of stuff.Think I posted a pic of two of her big nuggets found up on the Yuba River. She loves that Infinium. Course she learned to nuggetshoot from my old bud Jim Straight.

The 357 is the way to go for hogs. Doubt if there are many rattlers around with that many pigs. They eat the snakes like candy and are immune to the venom. We used to bust Javelina from horseback in Arizona with 357's. A 125 grain hollow point will tear them a new arse but the standard 158 grain will knock them down.

OOO is the way to go. Each slug is 38 caliber. I have a Derringer that holds two long 410's, each loaded with five OOO slugs. LIke getting hit with five 38's all at once. Really hurts. HAA.

Bill

Used to use Ruger 44's in Idaho for bear. They'll set a bear right down. My buddy downed a record silvertip black bear there with his 44 that weighed 600 pounds and stood seven feet. That's one helluva lot of black bear.

Yea, my .410 would do ok for hogs with slugs,
but kinda hard to carry around while detecting.
I'm gonna see if he's got something with a holster..
A .357 would be fairly stout. Or a .41...heck, I
guess I could go with a dirty harry hand cannon,
but I don't think he's got a 44... Actually, I do
think he's got a .45...That would work I suppose.
I'm not overly picky as long as it's got some knock
down to it... IE: a 9mm kinda small for my tastes for
that job. I've seen some deer keep running a bit even
when popped with a rifle shell. Just depends where it's
planted. Hopefully, I won't need it.. But I hear they
have really been running wild out there lately. Do a lot
of rooting, and cause a lot of damage to the land..
