Flippin hot rock

I would like to start a discussion on Hot Rocks. I use a White's Surf Pro 950 (I know- PI, LOL) and was wondering what techniques you use to tell if your pinging a hot rock. When I think I'm pinging a hot rock I turn the coil perpendicular to the object to see if the pinging tone is weaker or goes away. I can't say this method is reliable and would like your opinion. Do think changing the Gain or Tone makes a difference?

Thanks

Digging for gold doesn't just mean picking my nose- literally:lmfao:

I use a Sov XS and a headhunter PI. I can tell the difference with both most times, they just sound a little unclean/boomy with both machines.

I usually dig them anyway though just in case! I get a lot of black rocks in the UK. They look like bits of tarmac of various sizes up to a foot square. There's usually some old iron/pie wrapper in the middle of them if you can be bothered to break them open. Only real way to tell them for sure is sizing them, BUT could be something large but good like a sneaker full of gold!

I used to work a pi machine in the water in Hawaii which had lots of hot rocks. I got to the point I could be reasonably certain that it was a hot rock but because I was finding so many rings I would still move the rocks and recheck the hole. Most times I was right but a few times something else was hiding under the hot rock. Practice, practice, practice is the best answer I have for you. The more hours you have working your detector the better you will get. HH Mike.
