Flip Top Cigarette Lighter Size Item

When I first found this item today in an older home site I thought that it was a cigarette lighter. But after cleaning it with oil and opening the top, it was clear that it wasn't a lighter. The inside is hollow and a plate with a star like hole covering about half of the opening. I tried to id it on google lens, but didn't get any good matches. If you know what it is, please let me know. Thanks

I used the search term "vintage match safe with hunting scene" and there's a great many came up on images similar to yours, but no exact match. They seem to be from around the early 1900s. Try it and see what you find, you may be more diligent than I was.

I'm gonna say it's a Pocket ASH TRAY for Smokers back in the day. My neighbor gave me something similar like that a few years back. Hope you get it Id 'd
