Thanks for the respone Gabe, it sure looks like the Brown Bess, what I have measures about 6 inches with some obviously missing on the left side. Have you taken over the site from Steve?
 
...you might want to post that trigger guard over on the relic forum to see what they make of it. I'm leaning towards the enfield, but it is hard to tell from the pics.
