Flat Button question

I have been hunting at a friends home and the house was built in the 1920s. I have found mostly 40s wheaties. I did find a 1909 barber quarter, 1918 Canadian penny and a 1910 Canadian silver quarter. What is interesting is that I also found two flat buttons. What is the time-line for flat buttons? My camera is not working so I can't post but I know they are flat buttons. Any help? Thanks.

They quit making flat buttons around the civil war 1860. the first ones are usually pewter and evolved into brass. around the american revolution buttons had tombac shanks with no backmarks on the back. backmarks started around the 1800's and were used till the end.you can date them if theres a back mark. id no backmark you can tell by design.colonial period as i stated earlier had tombac style shanks and were large.

hope this helps
