Can anyone ID the piece on the right of the photo? Looks like a flag pole finial....maybe??? <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?">

It's a whiffletree tip from a buggy or cart hitch. A whiffletree is a pole to which the harness traces are attached.
Best of luck,
Buckram

Many thanks for the help! Any idea if it could have come from a wagon or the like from the Civil War period. It was found in a site with other period relics. Thanks, Scaper

Believe it's for a buggy or cart... pretty small to be from the tip of a big singletree from a wagon. Might be from the C. W. period, although the ones I've seen are in post-war catalogs, etc. Wish I could be of more help, but here's a link to some folks who should be able to answer your questions better than I can.
Best of luck,
Buckram
