flag on button

I am curious about the flag on this button and whether it represents something. There appears to be a central star at the top and bottom and a small cross on either side between the wavy lines. The bird has two feathers or a crest partly sticking out from the back of its head. From a search on the net Thomas Culleton was a Seal Engraver and had his business at 25 Cranbourn St. London. The button is 25mm in diameter, made of brass but originally had some type of silver coating.

Hi John, great looking button there! I haven't seen one like it before. The bird appears to be standing on rope or twine, don't know if it means anything either. Did you find it in the ususal place you go, where the pine plantation is?

Hi Golden, No this time I was hunting a new spot, vacant block that once had a railways house on it. Not as old as the place in the pines.
