Pull up a chair and a beer (like me - or a cuppa coffee/tea if you prefer - I'll have an Earl Grey thanks) on this one I may ramble on a bit, sunstroke or dehydration or something......
Had a free afternoon so you can guess where I went. Nah, the mosquitos had enough of me the past two hunts (even though I enjoyed that a lot) so the sea breeze was calling again.
A different beach to start with though. A short drive past the usual beach and at the base of a fishing park - anglers pay by the hour to enter. Quite a good place to fish because the currents bring the fish. There is also a netted off area with various species in it for those that want to 'cheat' and be sure of bringing home the sushi.
Saw a couple of Japanese men free-diving for something but not sure what, maybe shellfish.
Started at the east side of the fishing park and got some coins, including the ones at the bottom of the pic which have been in the sand a long time by the look of them, but no jewelry. Not a very popular beach but should be some there and worth a return visit. Remembered years ago a friend told me there was an unofficial nudist beach at the west side of the fishing park so wandered over there for a look - for metal of course - what are you thinking! LOL
No one was there so I climbed over the concrete Tetrapods (TM? - think that is actually a trademark) and dug a few coins from a small beach - heaps of trash.
Back over to between the tetrapods and a wall there is a stretch of stones and sand, seems to get covered at high tide. Old posts stick out of the sand. Dug up an old looking key (one of the few I have kept) and the heavy copper looking pendant in the pic (maybe a sports pendant, has 1999 on the back) and then a few sinkers. A Japanese guy walks past and strips off. I'm thinking I could be on to some nice jewelry with all the sinkers popping up, so I'm not leaving, just ignored him and kept on digging! Twenty-three sinkers later my brain kicked in (must've been the heat or gold fever or something) and said Ian come on, enough is enough, time to move on my friend!
Those sinkers would have been there from before the tetrapods went in. Great place to pick up lead! Also guessing there will be some old coins through there too, once the lead has gone that is. LOL
Back to the van and drive back toward the usual beach to head on home. But the electronic sign board just before the expressway says there's a LONG traffic jam, so made a short stop at the convenience store for some juice and a sandwich. Couldn't see much point in sitting in traffic so off to the usual beach for two hours. At least that is my excuse, after all, it is my 'game' so I can make the rules as I go along.
The coins start coming, out comes the silver wrist band at the top, then the one at the bottom. A little silver pendant, then the big chain (65g) - the bottom piece slides around the chain. And I'm thinking, wow this sure beats sitting in traffic, and I better stop laughing to myself.
1,735 yen in coins (about US$15.50)

Oh, noticed some of the shops at the usual beach are coming down now. Like the same day school starts, they don't mess around when a yen (or lack of it) is involved! Two young Japanese guys came over and suggested I scan around one of the shops because they had eyeballed many coins. Just to keep them happy and to satisfy my curiosity too I walked over there with them - at the same time thinking trash, trash and more trash. It is a place I almost never go with the Sea Hunter because of the excess iron. The place was FULL of new nails and pull tabs so I didn't hang around long!! Didn't have my one inch coil with me anyway! LOL
Showed them the nails and they picked up many so that trip wasn't really wasted in my view.
Thanks for reading. Been a bit quiet on here and other Garrett forums recently (everyone hiding from the sunshine/heat? , always enjoy reading other people's posts (and love to learn about all Garrett machines too) so please, please jump in and post away. The more the merrier.
