Five coin spill, all wheat's.

They are tearing down over a hundred homes to make way for a 4 lane highway coming into town. I think most of the homes are from the 40's, but who knows what was there before. My father's house is one house from being taken and being demolished. He is in the safe zone, but is losing a lot of neighbors. I think I have more to detect then I have time for. I like to MD them before they are trashed. I wait for the people to move and like a vulture, I am there. I hunted for 1 1/2 hours and covered less then half the property.

I was on the side where the coal chute was. The ground is hard on the coins and MDing. Most coins were wheat's in the 40's.

This was my oldest find, 1917.

Yeah John freeway right of ways are great hunting spots. There's always the chance of finding a cache like I did many years back when they were going to put in a new freeway here. Are they moving any of the houses or demolishing them all? You might check and see how far back in time the homes go. Back in harder times many folks didn't believe in banks and buried their money on their property. You might get lucky

Everybody isn't leaving at once. I think most of the houses are from the 40's. Still a good chance for finding some silver. There is an old school house from 1912 I think. I can't wait till they tear up the old asphalt. It was put down in the 60's. Maybe virgin ground? I know I lost milk money before they put down the asphalt. There are a couple of homes closer to town that are from the 1800's and a lot of people have MD them. They are very over grown with weeds and are high visibility. I was down there once MDing them. People are tooting there horns, for what ever the reason. They also did that when I MDed Doc's house in July. A newspaper reporter stopped and did an article on me MDing. Got my picture in the paper. I had a friend tell me he and some of his friends MDed it pretty hard. I want to MD the old area some more, but with all the traffic it freaks me out.
I always have fun telling people what I an about to dig up. I told the reporter it was a screw cap. It blew her away when I dug up a screw cap.

Way to go on the wheats John. They are always fun. I did some swinging lately where they are tearing down some older houses. Found more zincs and junk than I expected but did find another state tax token and a 48 silver quarter. Never know. I think about it this way sometimes. Where would I loose coins, something special around my house? NO PLACE!!! I don't loose stuff. I FIND IT.....EHEHEHEHE....

If these homes are old enough ( and they probably are ) to have had outhouses in the past - keep that in mind. You might pick up some plat maps at the courthouse that would show each house and how long it had been there and when they hooked up to the sewer. You would need a steel probe to probe for the pits Some mighty interesting stuf in those pits.

THere's a couple of guys here in Portland armed with plat maps who travel all over town getting permission to probe the outhouse pits in people's back yards. They find a ton of very expensive bottles and related items including old coins.
