Cool. I've had both small and largemouth bass follow me and occasionally nip and the coil. They seem to like the goodies that float around when I'm swimming and digging. Oh, please use periods whilst writing. Thanks!

I bet those bass were looking for a crawdad or something the coil was stirring up maybe? I always wondered about the salt water hunters hunting at night and having to worry about a bull shark being attracted to them.

mudpuppy not many call them crawl dads. lol We do ! and Down here hush puppies used t be a shoe and corn dodgers were ate with fish lol

Crawdads, mudbugs, crawfish, crayfish...all the same. Absolutely the truth: couple of weeks ago, I snorkeled a 1/4 mile along the shore of a small MA lake. Picked up Wheaties, fishing weights, silver quarter, spinning blades, etc. This one smallmouth (~3/4 lb) followed me the entire distance! I could tell since he/she had a tiny nick behind their left gills. Every time I paused, he/she would approach the coil, look below it, look at me (as if to say, "C'mon, I'm hungry"), and then slowly swim to the other side of the coil. When I was moving, he/she would cruise along next me. It was nice to have a companion, but also strange; I thought smallmouth were somewhat territorial even this late in the year.

Only it was a pike. It would follow me and I could literally touch it with my coil and it was not afraid. This has happened on at least 2 occasions.

You must have some crystal clear water. In the lake/river where I detect the water is so brown looking you can't see over a foot deep. I could have a 12 foot alligator watching my coil and never know it unless I stumbled over him or he got hungry and I looked like a 265 lb crawdad. Lol.

the lakes here are pretty clear, most times out there is a few fish waiting to see what comes out of the sand, pretty cool to see.

This was quite an interesting thread actually. Pretty strange fish behaviour.
