Fisherlabs 1280X vs Tesoro Tiger Shark

Hi diggers! Let me see if I got this right-Tesoro's Tiger Shark (A pulse induction unit designed for both land and sea, costs $750.00 new. If you want a 10.5" coil with it, add another $165.00 (including the skid shield.). So what's that total? $915.00-new.

Now, Fisherlabs has the 1280X, also designed for land and sea.
OK, it's not a pulse induction unit, its a VF.
The 1280 comes with a STANDARD 10.5" coil, and the unit has a target LED light. (Which the sandshark lacks.) We can get this new for $663, plus lots of other free goodies (with purchase) at site unmentionable.

So let's see, $915 minus $663... The Fisherlab 1280X costs $252.00 less, and we get a bunch of free goodies thrown in to boot.

Can anyone tell me why the Tiger Shark with a 10.5" coil is worth $252.00 more than the 1280X?

You could even get a T2 for $215.00 less than the Tigershark with a 10.5" coil! Looks like the Tesoro Tigershark is third man out. What do you think?

By the way, if you were going to be hunting the beaches, would you be more apt to get a Fisherlab 1280X or a T2?

Keep on diggin, Kevin from Ipswich, Mass.

Kevin, A few thoughts. The prices you mentioned are MSRP, and you
can find the Tesoros for less at a lot of dealers. The Tiger Shark
and the 1280 X are VLF, and the Sand Shark is a pulse. The 2 VLF
units work good in fresh water, but false some in salt water, while the pulse works good in saltwater. The Tesoros have a case you have to
latch each time you use it,a feature I both liked and disliked. You
have to be very careful each time to have the O-ring very clean
before latching, but you can also see into the machine each time to
make sure there is no water inside. The Fisher is permanently sealed
so less worry each time ,but you can't see if any leak has happened.
The Tesoros have interchangable coils, the Fisher doesn't.Each has
it's good points. You just have to pick which suits you best, or if
you can get a good deal from people/dealers you know, try each and
sell it if you want the other.I have a Fisher now(cz20),but liked the Tesoro, just was too sensitive for saltwater use.Hope I haven't confused you. Good luck on your choice. HH Joe
