I've never used a 1280X, but I hear that they're basically a 1235X in a waterproof box. I have a CZ-20, which is basically the same as a CZ-21, but the pinpoint switch is different. FWIW, I don't use the pinpoint switch for anything, as I pinpoint with a modified "X" style pinpoint in the water. I've used a CZ-5 for several years before I got my CZ-20. The CZ-20 and CZ-21, from what I've heard, is basically a CZ-5 in a waterproof box, but without a meter. Since I was so familar with the CZ-5, using a CZ-20 was a "no-brainer" for me.
