Fisher VLF-551-D

From the 80's. Got great reviews back then, & I've always wanted to try one, or at least have one for my Fisher collection. If you decide to pass on it let me know........

But it is a VLF-TR machine. Extremely stable in VLF mode. With any TR disc mode detectors
you need too keep the coil steady at the same height off the ground while sweeping. Or your get falsing, which will drive you nuts. I don't know how we endured the noise back in the 70's and 80's.

The VLF-555 machines are killers, great depth especially in VLF mode.
It was a pleasure hunting with these machines in VLF mode. I'd still have one for the sake of it but they are pretty heavy. I let mine go for a newer detector.

I own a 551-D. I recently purchased it off e-bay. It is my first detector, so cant compare to anything else. I'm extremely happy with it so far. Haven't used it in discrim mode much. Have concerns about depth. Seem to find everything a few inches down, not sure if missing deeper stuff or nothing there. Would like to know more about the manual threshold adjustment. I paid $102.00 for mine and think it was a bargain! thefinder.....
