Fisher verse Minelab - Need Advice from Experienced Users

HELP.... This is my first post.

I have a Fisher CZ 7a Pro and want to upgrade.

I love the way the F5 is so user friendly. I've looked into a "Tiger Shark" because I like water detecting (though presently use my fisher in the water waste deep. I have unwrapped the cable that is around around the stem and placed the unit in a knapsack, keeping it above the water--it works okay.) I want to do more land detecting. I live in Charlottesville and have access to property that has possible historical finds. The more I study various units the more confused I get. The following are my issues:

1) I want a detector that is easy to set up (user friendly) and yet powerful enough to go 8 or 10 inches
2) I want a system that is durable and works well in the battlefield and in the sand
3) I've examined these units and would like your advice
* Safari ... I love the looks of this unit. Is it easy for the novice? Is it buggy or stable (being a new unit on the market)
* Fisher F75 and T-2 ... I love them both but confused which to get. I love the price of the T2. IS THE F75 as good with one frequency opposed to the Safari with 28 frequencies.
* I love the F5. Can it reach "almost as deep" as the above units? Can it be manually set like the above units? What would be the best 2nd coil for this unit.
* I have looked at the Tiger Shark that can be taken into the water, sand and battlefield.

Thank you for taking the time to help. I will be going to Africa for the 40th time in a few weeks and would love to order a unit before I leave.

P.S. What pin-pointer would you recommend

I answered your other post. From what you stated, you need to look into the F-70. Easier to use, cheaper and will go deeper than what you asked for.

If you want F-75 performance on a budget I have an F-70 up on E-bay right now.
My F-70 has the 11 inch coil that comes standard on the F-75. I also own an F-75 and I have tested both machines head-to-head and my F-70 is actually slightly deeper than my F-75. The only thing I like about the F-75 better is the trigger, the back light and the on-the-fly depth meter. As far as performance, there is no difference. The only complaint that most users have with the F-series detectors is they are sensitive to EMI and can be noisy at times.
My F-70 with the coil upgrade should give you the performance you are looking for and even if you end up not liking it, you should have no problem selling it for what you have invested. I doubt you will find anything in this price range that will compete.

Take care,
Leo

I have used Safari and T2, and F75..Safari OK but in my opinion my T2, and My F75 is a better unit for me.. Different machines not comparable really..

Different hunting required for each machine,,Though T2 and F75 very close in operation..

The F5 will find coins 8-10 inches easy. I've found pennies and dimes at 8 inches with good tone so larger coins like quarters and half dollars 10 inches. Also you might look in to the Teknetics Omega 8000. The Brother to the F5 but with more power under the hood! Check it out on the Teknetics forum.

The T2 will do you well IMHO. Lightweight, deep and fast on the draw. Cheaper than the F-75 too. The F-5 ain'tno slouch either...good on-the-go unit. However, none of the Fishers you mentioned will perform as well as a Minelab around the beach.

As far as a pinpointer....Garrett Propointer...without a doubt!

WOW...Thank you for taking time to give me some good pointers!

Questions: Would you say that the Safari is a better all-around detector (beach/land) than Fisher?

I have the f75 & e-trac and if I were you I would go with the f75. The cz7a is a very good detector and I do have a cz 5 and the cz's will stay up with all detectors.

I've had an F75 for about 2 1/2 years. It's fast, deep, easy to use & pinpoint and very light, well balanced and easy to swing. About 3 months ago I sold the gold and platinum rings found with the F75 which paid for a used Safari. The F75 is lighter and easier to swing, has a backlight, faster response time, much better battery life, a wider target response range of numbers up to 99 vs. 40 for the Safari. On the Safari, it's very easy to create and save custom programs. It runs much quieter (more stable) than the F75 in some places, and is excellent at picking good targets out of trashy ground. The Safari handles the wet salt water sand very well, where the Safari really needs to stay in the dry stuff. If you're buying new, the F75 comes with a 5 year warranty, the Safari a 2 year. If you're mainly hunting for relics in fields and dry sand searching, I'd go for the F75.

Good Luck!

You're comparing the F75 - FT's highest end detector to the Safari - Minelab's 3rd machine. I'm not sure that's a fair comparison.

That's like comparing the E-Trac or ExplorerSE to the F5/F4 --- they won't compare.

I keep my F75 around with the 4X6 on it for iron laden homes - and in the fall with the 11" DD in fields. Talk to Tom Dankowski about sand hunting - .... it appears from his experience it depends on your location as he's had bad luck using it in sand but many of the posters to his forum have done ok.

I have not had even close to an experience that would have me recommending the F75 as an "all around" machine. Rather than get called names here, I'll withold specifics, but you're welcome to PM me for one man's honest assessment.

Good luck with your choice!

Shambler, I'd go for it and tell us a little more. It may bruise some feelings but we may learn a little along the way.

I, for one, am not married to a brand!

I took your advice and went with the F75... Thanks!

You bought yourself a good detector, best of luck with it.

Might be best next time not to walk into a ford dealership and ask which is better, ford or chevy. find a more neutral forum, there are quite a few here on findsmall.

I have several brands minelab and fisher are two of them and have the f75(just got it) and an etrac. time will tell:cheers:

I have a quattro similar to safari good machine especially with the 8inch coil. But it is fairly heavy so is the Safari. The F75 is lighter and can be swung faster than the safari. On the beach the safari probably would have a slight advantage because of the Fbs. But in the parks relic hunting and lots F75.
