Fisher Question

Good day all. I was blessed to have found a plowed field where there must have been a house from the mid-1700s. I found three old coppers with my whites coinmaster and three more and a couple buttons with my shadow X5 and then I spent a couple days with the Fisher F-22. The Fisher found me three more buttons that the other detectors missed. For the shadow X5 to miss a button it says something good about the Fisher. My only concern is that I got a lot of real good readings on iron nails. I never had too much of a problem with my White's detectors with old nails and My Shadow was okay but not the greatest. Unfortunately the Fisher really sounds off with a good signal on the nails. Is this common on all Fishers?( I know many detectors do this on rosehead nails but it was pretty extreme with the F-22) I got the okay to get a new detector on Father's Day for around $400 and I'm pretty set on the f70 / Patriot although I really would like it and an idx Pro ;-) but know the Fisher will keep me interested trying to use the settings( I did have a DFX that I was really good at tweaking) I mainly hunt in Upstate New York and New England around old Cellar holes in the woods trashy parks and plowed fields. Do you think I'll be fine with the Patriot / f70 in terms of old iron.

and hitting with another may have more to do with ground balance, settings, recovery speed and searchcoil. Or it may be simple the search pattern.
At times the problematic nails (usually somewhat perpendicular) may pinpoint a couple of inches away from the pinpoint mode point.
(also you might try the toe or heel edge to see if there is an iron tone/drop out that appears with nails/BC's and other iron)

Try this with your F-22 and those nails. I've found with more than one detector and larger rusty nails that often times
the nails actually hit in two different zones, high tone and also in ferrous (Iron) most don't catch this but I caught on to it
when using a Coin$trike. With that detector the display is ALL METAL! so it always displays ALL targets even if they don't break
through the audio discrimination. So, I had it out I had been digging some high tone nails, well on one of them I changed direction
and I noticed that it didn't high tone with several sweeps of the coil, well I was watching the meter and I noticed that when I didn't hear it
the meter showed a near 180 degrees from the high tone into the Iron range!!!, so I called it Iron and dug it and it was a nail. So, then
I worked at that enough to confirm that in MOST cases a opposite Iron reading along with a skipped high tone were in fact larger rusty nails.
I don't know if the F-22 meter is all metal or not? What almost everybody does when the get a high tone is when we check the meter,
so a nulled tone doesn't bring our attention to the meter, so we'll dig those hit miss high tones and a good percentage of them being rusty nails.
Now, if the target is actually a good target (Coin) and you get a hit and miss audio BUT you don't get the 180 Iron hit then its not likely to be
a rusty nail. So, if you can set things up in a way that you can check for a 180 Iron hit then you might be able to work around a good bit of the nails.

Great advice Mark! I have found that to work with the F22 I also noticed that the old Rose head Nails would often come up as 97 to 99 . Also when there is a slight warble to the tone it was often a coin or a button. I will tell you that little Fisher is an awesome machine. I'm thinking of selling my X5 and getting one of the new Fishers or perhaps trying on Minelab for the first time. It sure is good to have the bug again.
