Read the manual and practice in the backyard and use the bobbing method and after a while one or two bobs and your ready to hunt...Heres a tip put volume and Sens. at Max(10) and you will be able to hear the sound variations much better..Remember once balanced you can drop either to where comfortable for you while having stable unit..
 
Wow Dan ... personally, my ears would ring for a long time if I ground balanced with max sensitivity and volume. But the point about making sure you can hear the variations is good.
 
Fellow detectorists have had over the years as they couldn't hear the changes, Seems like thats not your problem so perhaps set your unit where it is comfortable as in this aspect all CZ's are not the same and of course some headphones are just louder. To ammend my post set the volume and sens. to where comfortable is probably more accurate..
