just got an id edge today in a trade with a forum member and i'm impressed with the machine already. took it to my dads house to see just how good it was in seeing through the iron and trash. this yard gave my 1266 fits....but did manage to find a few wheaties and a couple silver dimes with the 1266. the fisher id edge worked great in the trash but i did notice the id was jumping around some at first. my first good signal locked on at +36 and was about 7" deep according to the machine. i cut a deep plug and saw a silver coin in the hole....a 1951 washington quarter. i ran the detector over the hole and got another signal which was a 1955 rosie dime. this machine is going to be pulling some silver off of the old sites i thought were worked out......good hunting! .....roger
Hey Roger. Good deal with the Edge. I have only rented the Edge fromm my dealer on weekends when I hunt, only because I'm busy with college and stuff. Plus I just seem to find the only times I can really get to spend some good time hunting is on weekends. So because I don't own the machine I'm not as proficient with it, but I know I like what it's done for me. Those are some nice finds too, pretty cool. What part of the country do you live in, and what do you have your settings at to get that deep with the Edge? I know different areas and environments will produce different results for people, but I seemed to only get to about 3 to 4 inches with mine. But I guess finding stuff is still finding stuff, so I wouldn't bash that. Plus, the areas I'm hunting at things may not be that deep. But I was just wondering if I could be passing things up because of possible settings set-up on my machine. I basically use the factory pre-set when I use the one I rent. Thanks Roger. HH. Sincerely, Randy
HI RANDY, YOU PROBABLY HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE WITH THE ID EDGE THAN I DO SEEING THAT I JUST GOT MY MACHINE FRIDAY. I HAVE BEEN COIN HUNTING FOR OVER 25 YEARS SO I HAD A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE MACHINE BY READING THE ONLINE OPERATING MANUAL BEFORE I GOT MY MACHINE. THE MANUAL DOESN'T GO INTO DETAIL ON MANY OF THE SETTINGS OF THE DETECTOR BUT IT EXPLAINS THE CONTROLS ENOUGH THAT I WASN'T TOTALLY CONFUSED FIRST TRIP OUT WITH IT. I WENT HUNTING WITH A BUDDY TODAY AND LEARNED QUITE A BIT ABOUT THE ID EDGE TODAY BY DIGGING DIFFERENT SIGNALS TO SEE WHAT THE MACHINE WAS TELLING ME. ONE THING FOR SURE.....IT GOES DEEP! I WAS DIGGING SIGNALS CLOSE TO 10 INCHES ON A FEW TARGETS. I'M GOING TO HAVE TO BUY A DIFFERENT DIGGING TOOL FOR THIS MACHINE. I RAN THE DETECTOR ON OLD COIN PRESET FOR MOST OF THE DAY AND IT WORKED VERY WELL. I DUG A '39 QUARTER AT OVER 7" AND A FEW WHEATIES AT 4 TO 6 INCHES. I FOUND A 1942 BRASS DOG TAG AT CLOSE TO 6 INCHES DEEP THAT WAS BELOW A CHUNK OF TINFOIL. I'M IN THE WEST CENTRAL PART OF ILLINOIS AND THE SOIL IS PRETTY GOOD HERE IN MOST PLACES. MAYBE IF YOU TRY SOME DIFFERENT LOCATIONS THAT HAS DEEPER TARGETS YOU WILL SEE THE DEPTH CAPABILITIES OF THE ID EDGE. I'M IMPRESSED WITH THE DETECTOR SO FAR. ONE THING I DID TODAY WAS TO NOTCH OUT THOSE PESKY ZINC PENNIES THAT ARE JUST UNDER THE SURFACE. IT WORKED GREAT AND I WASN'T BOTHERED BY THEM THE REST OF THE DAY. GOOD LUCK HUNTING...........ROGER
I've had an edge for about as long as thay have been out and the following setting work in my area
set up in CP dis set at +2 sen set at any where from +4(STILL HITS DEEP TARGETS) TO +7 after that it starts to false some in my ground cond..
If i go wading with it i drop the dis down to -3 or 4 so i do hit some iron but if a ring is alongside of the iron i will still hear it as the iron won.t null out the ring and also
up the sen AFTER i ground bal. to get mure depth out of the edge hope this helps you out and if you don't think it works check out some of the older post i have posted
on the site along with a few others that have used it (jackpine savage) as it is a really good detector for small gold too
