Fisher ID Edge Hints needed

riverguy

New member
Ordered a new ID Edge and have read some things about it like Bill Ladd's field test article. But most of the stuff on these forums are for the other Fisher models. I can't find how to search the forums, I think that is reserved for paid users so I cannot search for post just about the ID edge.

I will be using the Edge for coin hunting along what was once farmland along the Chattahoochee river in N. Georgia and of course the river banks in places where lots of people use it as a kind of unofficial public park year round. Plus I will look for coins at playgrounds, schools and older sites I can locate nearby. This is a pretty built up suburban area but still patches of undeveloped land here and there.

So any hints, tips or techniques on using the ID Edge will be greatly appreciated.

BTW I remember about 18 years ago when I was using the gold bug in my gold digging days, we had no resource like this forum. Yes there was one monthly magazine, and I did know a retired state geologist and a very experienced local gold prospector and some books but that was it. But NOTHING like the wealth of information these forums provide. It is a great help to one's learning curve. With the Gold Bug you did not need to know much. other than how to correctly operate it. The gold bug was of course all metal, so you pretty much turned it on and did your ground balance and you were off. Since 99% of the gold was in the streams, you really didn't have worry about looking at any other place to serach Of course I always searched while going to and from the dig site and it was not hard to find metal axe heads with the gold bug. Didn't have to be too precise in your swinging to locate those items and other relics.

So get ready to dig.The search feature is for any one to use . just go to the main page that list the forums and click on search it's right under the picture banner. There's a wealth of info on the Edge. Just type in edge in the search box click all forums and all dates and be ready to read and read.

I see you're in N.Georgia Chattahoochee River . I've hunted the Chattahoochee for many years. Mainly South Fulton.Dug many of Civil war relics along that river.Confederate cavalry was all over South Fulton. Some of my best finds have come off the river. If you're into coins i have a story of Hunting an old house site at a ferry crossing a few years ago.I was digging civil war relics out of the house then low and behold Out pops a 1776 2 Reale . (Fisher 1236 got that one.) I was quite pleased to say the least:clapping:

Try the Search feature out.

Good luck

search for id-excel hints and things to do with it. the excel and edge work all most the same.
i found by running no disc and a low sense i could pick coins from the most iron infested sites. you can hear the low iron its going crazy then bam a higher tone will pop in. thats when i slow down on that target and listen for it to come back out of the iron. then PP and dig.

-36 bouncing up to a +36 is 99% of the time iron falsing.
old pennies can read as low as about +20 but seldom do.
nickels always came in at around +10 give or take a number.
copper pennies +26 - +28 mostly
clad dimes +28 - +30 but once in a wile +26 or +27 will turn up a dime.
clad quarters +32 - + 34
silver dimes all ways show up as +31 - +33
silver quarters +33 - +35
never found any half or dollar coins with mine so i couldnt tell you the # but im sure it will be in the high +30's maybe even a +36

In clean good ground you can run the sense all the way up if want. but if your in the iron or trashy places dont be scared to run a very low sens so you can separate targets better.

the edge has notches so you could notch out high coins and really pick gold off a beach if you wanted.

Good luck with your detector its a good unit and dont ever think that you have less of a machine when you see a guy with a $1500. unit. just smile and know that you have a very good unit that will kick his detectors a$$ in iron.
