Fisher Gold bugs

New member
Gday another newbie here from downunder!!!!!
I'm new to all this and have an opportunity to get hold of a "Gold bug" pretty cheap but can only find info on the "Gold Bug II".
So how do they compare???
I'm only interested in detecting for gold if that makes any difference!!
Keep up the good work, some good reading on here.

I'm not an expert on gold machines, but if I'm not mistaken the gold machines
produced here are usually geared for the geological conditions in the
USA. The MineLab on the other hand was developed for the harsh conditions of the Australian outback....
really heavy harsh ground mineralization. I'm sure you COULD and WILL find gold with the Gold Bug
but why not get a machine that's made to handle the ground in your area? The X-70 while expensive
would do the job. Check out the Forum x-70, here and look for Mick of Dubo (he's an Aussi in your neck of the
woods) and he can probably help you better. Just a thought.

I'd have to agree with Robert, I did have the original Gold Bug and it was an ok machine at best. In your ground it would be useless. See if you can find a used SD 2000 that's the way I'd go. It will handle the ground no problem and find deep nuggets. You can also have it modified to be just as good as a 2200.

I also had one of the original Gold Bugs, and it drove me crazy on the hot rocks, so I got rid of it.
