Fisher Gold Bug

Mine is going good. I haven't used it in the field for about a week, but its pretty cool. I'm trying to learn about the all metal mode which will help me gain some sensitivity, and depth on targets. I have never owned a detector before so getting used to the function, and performance is a task. I have found 45 cents the first time i took it to the park in about an hour. I have taken it to the river a few times but the water was hi and the cliffs were very step, and only have been able to skim the surface if you will. But i have found almost 10 lbs of nails, wire, bullets, pellets, and other odd metal items. I was talking to a guy from AZ on you tube and he has an old gold bug with the beetle on the side of the housing. He said, if I can find a small piece of gold in an air test I should be able to find that small of a piece detecting. I'm planing on a trip out soon. With the long weekend, and the heat it is kinda depressing to venture out and hunt....

I have taken my Gold Bug SE out twice now for prospecting and 4 times out on the beach and park. There is a learning curve on prospecting! A good idea is to take a small piece of gold with you, to use as a confidence builder. Try laying it on the ground and see the response that you get. I was out yesturday and although I found no nuggets, it did lead me to some 1 or two grain flakes. I had the Gain set to 1300hrs and the Threshold set to around Noon. I did find a spent .22 caliber bullet, so I have no doubt in my mind, if the gold is there, it will find it! I am still puzzled why I haven't found a single quarter, toonie or loonie! I will have to do some air tests to see if there is an issue with it.

I used it to identify areas in the crumbling bedrock to pan out. Of course, I wanted to find nuggets, but it responds well to black sand and fine gold that is mixed. I have no problem finding pellets from air guns and .22 caliber rounds. I am guessing that it is just time before I come across that nugget

I'm not that Fisher savvy, but I've read the "se" was designed to compete with the Lobo ST. The detector runs arounds at about 17khz like the Lobo, has ground tuning like the Lobo. The before Gold Bugs, ran at about of 60 khz. This has undoubtedly been hashed over here before, and in my opinion the SE is probably a great detector, but I wonder how it stacks up to a Gold Bug ll...... for finding gold.
Any comments or comparisons would be greatly appreciated and welcome.
