Fisher Gold Bug S.E. discrimination overview

here's a video I did showing the way the disc works on the gold bug....Sorry for the finger over the lens a few times!!!

I need a left handed camera...so I can manipulate the controls with my right...

any how it shows how the tone break can be advantageous for getting surgical with your detector.

the ability to hear the iron instead of just silencing it is important to know how to hunt the site more thorough...

maybe it shows it's disc abilities ??

Nice video Keith One thing Ive noticed about my GB is I cant rely on the Iron graph a aluminum can will read full iron! But The Vdi is much more reliable it hits the can at a steady 85. I pretty much ignore it and just look for steady vdi readings. I have the none modulated version does yours do this as well or can you count on the iron meter?
Thanks and good luck!

You sure you're not overlooking the fact that in disc mode, the graph is signal strength and not Fe3O4 (which it is in AM)?

I was going to ask that same question.

I am not sure if the Fe meter helps out with target characteristics in all metal, but I have seen rusty iron nails spike the Fe meter to 3-4 bars where as non-iron targets did not. Still experimenting and debating that one.

Also found that deeper iron/junk sprays the ID numbers in discriminate mode...ie, they are all over the map and not in tight range. Similar in all metal as the arc meter will go from 20, 45, 90, 10..etc. The deeper, 'better' sounding/ID'ing targets stay in a much tighter range...especially when you start to whip the coil over the target faster and in short 2-4 inch sweeps.

Last thing....it's no coincidence that the Gold Bug got me a lot more nickels than I usually get when beach hunting.

I loved the video! I can't wait to get out to some old cabins this weekend. Keep the videos coming!:hot:

Great video Keith, some good points, not for just the GB SE, but other machines also.
