Fisher F5 or Minelab Xterra 505?

Trawler

New member
Hello all. I am looking to upgrade from a White's Prizm III which I have owned for 4 years or so. I have narrowed down my prospects to either a Fisher F5 or an Xterra 505 (or 305). Obviously, the Xterras allow changing frequencies by changing coils. Aside from that, which detector of those mentioned would you, the forum members, suggest I purchase? I'll be mainly doing general detecting for coins and such in yards, parks, schools, etc. And I am willing to learn, so ease-of-use is not much of a factor. Thanks to all who reply!

Being a Minelab owner and a Fisher owner (X-Terra 70, F2). My vote goes to the X-Terra 505. It really has a lot going for it for thr $$, Beale.

I'll second this, can't go wrong with the 505. Get the 6" coil and the 9" 3kHz and you will be set for coilshooting...........MO

I went with the Xterra, though I went with the 305 instead. I wanted the 505, but finances forced me to get the 305. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the 305 even though I don't have the option of the 3 MHz coil

I really like my F5, dis-liked the Xterra 50, but would like to try the Xterra 305.

I think you'll like the 305 better than the 505.

Good luck,

Mike
