:fisher: F5 - First thoughts, Usage, Coil Options. :yikes:

what coils did you try???

I used the F5 a month or so at a salt beach just above Boston...and while I didnt have a LOT of time to use it there...........is seemd to do quite well......... Streak!

Thanks. I thought Bounty Hunter had more coils available. Looks to me like they have the 4" and the 10".

4", 8" 10" Plus a few more odd ones.

I have not gone threw the process of testing the depth differences between these, and the stock coil. Perhaps I will have some time in a few week to do so. I will report it here.

Bill if you were able to use the Bounty Hunter coils, then it would appear that this will be able to use all of the F4 coils, as their interchangeable between the two. Now isn't this interesting, because we're talking detectors with different frequencies...HMMMMM :poke:

Well Cal, strange things have happened. Nothing is cast in stone. Just what is the frequency of the F4 ?

The frequency does not have to be exactly on to get the coil to work. Just look at Tesoro's coils for example.

I haven't tested them depth wise to see how it operates. They do plug in, and operate. Somehow I doubt that Fisher would have used the same type of coil connector if they were not compatible.

They may work well, 50/50, or not at all.

What I had to use appeared to work OK on the F5 I had out in the field. Getting to the nitty gritty of what one is better performance wise, I didn't test it like that.

The F5 is advertised as 7.8 kHz frequency, and the F4 Frequency as 5.9kHz.

If the F5 works with the F4/F2/BH coils, that opens up a lot of great possibilities. Like using the 11" DD coil from the F4, or the 10" concentric from BH.

It would be great to see further testing on this, it could really open the door for the F5 with an instant repertoire of inexpensive coils.

HH,
Brian

The BH coils are not tuned to the F5's circuit. It's a touch & go thing. I doubt the performance of the BH coils will be as good as the supplied F5 coil.

It would be interesting to measure the impedance of the F5 factory coil vs the other coils mentioned. Might be closer then we think.
