fisher f2

New member
just bought a new f2 this week, went out yesterday evening first time with it,not that happy with it,to many tones chattering kilck beeb peep hard to work with, not what I expected from fisher, mind you the area is very junkey, plenty of WWII scrap, schrapnell zinc ect, ( I live in munich) did manage to find a few old deutsch marks and 1.27euro,all in all just in all 25 coins,a time consuming machine, I still have my old 1266 great detector never had any problems with it,over the years I have built up a fine collection from bronze age, roman and right up to the present day, will give the f2 another go this evening and see what it comes up with,,ps need to get a usb cabel to day,and will post some of my finds

just been down the beer garden cheaking out where Im going digging later with my f2,Its a massive green aera just across from the beer garden, dug it out about 3years ago, lots of coins from 18 and 19centuray,alot of nazi s..t as well,If the f2 dose not match the standerds of my old 1266x then thats it for me with this detector,so lets see what or if it brings a few finds to light, will post what I find tomorrow, should be worth a few euros at least

The F 2 is the "low end" detector from Fisher. Does a good job, for the money, but can't be compared with an F 70, or F 75, which are considerably more money. It's doubtful it will have the power of the 1266. I'd recommend an F 70 which has power to burn.

I was under the impression it was illegal to metal detect in Germany. Obviously, I was wrong. What are the laws there? It would be a great place to hunt. I lived there for a year and a half in the mid 60's and would love to go back.

keep on diggin'

what are the laws here???every one asks that,, it depends what state(BUNDESLAND)your in,baddenw

Stuttgart for a year and Hidelberg for six months. Love Bavaria. Did a lot of traveling while I was there. Went to West Berlin three times and East Berlin once.

Good luck with your hunting,

i just bought a fisher f2 w/3coils.i know about the 4"coil, but i have not heard anything about the other two.i have not heard any comments.will any other coils interchange.as you can see we,wife and myself 63&55 just started.we will take all the advice we can get.semper fi. joe&wanda

joe&wanda the F2 shares the same coils as the F4 and a lot of newer Bounty Hunter machines. There's the 4", 8", 10" concentrics and the 11" DD (and I believe there to be another coil, but I can't recall what it is?). I have the F4 and have found it to be a very good machine, I like the 11" DD coil (except for the common issue with DD coils and bottle caps) and really like the 10" coil (it's inexpensive, feather light, deep, great pin-pointing, etc).

Brian

I have the F2 and Like it a lot.

I'm mostly using the 4" coil. For trashy areas, the separation is exceptional.

Thank yoy all for the information you have provided me. very much thanks. sorry for not having said so before. just got my detector and working out all the buttens.still looking for the battery issue.any info would be thanked.
Thanks agian,
Joe

lars,On the battery issure I can,t find any rechargeable ackaline batteries.I have been told plaine rechargeables go dead right after hitting the target.and they don,t make ack.-rechargeables for the f2 fisher. help i am useing energizer rechargeable & nick. cadmiun 8.4v 9volt. thanks joe&wanda

John & Wanda,

hmm I am using rechargeable battery's for my F2 and it works perfectly!

There is no alkaline rechargeable battery's. Alkaline is NON-rechargeable!

You can (should) use NiMH, (Nickel Metal-Hydrid).

I'm using X-power NiMH, 220 mAh, 8,4 Volt. They DO NOT GET DEAD WHEN HITTING THE TARGET. my detector works perfectlty with these.
One IMPORTANT thing though: the 2 battery's that you do put in the detector MUST HAVE the same level of charge. I bought at one point 2 new alkaline, and put them in, this was before I had bought the rechargeable ones, and the detector died when I hit the targets! An experienced detectorist explained to me that it was VERY important that the battery's was matched, so they had the exact Voltage, and when i got home I measured that there was a difference in Voltage between these 2 NEW battery's! Then I bought my NiMH and put them in...has worked perfect since then.

Since they are a little less in voltage, they might get empty somewhat faster than alkaline battery's, but then again: have more of them, why not 6?
2 in the detector
2 fully recharged
and 2 charging

Do any of you have any experience with the 10", or 11" DD coils on the F2? If so, please do share! I'd like an F75 next, but for now I would like to do as much as I can with the little F2 that could. Would one of those two coils improve the depth of coin hits?

Thanks!

I've used both coils on the F4, and both are great coils. The 11"DD is a great trash noodler, as well as a coin rake (super accurate TID except for crown caps). You gain about an inch over the 10" on the 11" DD, so compare that to what you're using now. The 10" coil still goes deep, but it doesn't suck up crown caps like the DD does.

I've had an F2 for about 2 yrs. My brother-in-Law usually uses his 1236, but I was beating him with my F2. So he had to go out and get an F2 with the large coil. He's mostly used it on beaches so far, and likes it. I think I'll have to order one.

You might see if you can find a good package deal on the F4 with the 3 coils (was a package when it was new), as you'll almost pay as much for the F2 plus the addition of the F4 11" DD.
