Fisher F2 Target ID's - Canadian Clad

Eganwp

New member
Well, I've spent some time with my new Fisher F2 and complied a list of TID readings for dug Canadian Clad based on all coin compositions over many decades made by the Canadian mint. I haven't seen anything like this posted for the Fisher F2 online in my searches, so I hope it can help some people out with my compilation.

Since I'm new to the MD'ing scene I'm still without many of the old coins. As such, as I find them I'll be updating the spreadsheet with the latest TID's and posting updates here.

Please note that these posted results are in a controlled airtest environment, full sensitivity -1 bar, from 2"-5" in depth (0"-7" tested). Min & max TID's were only taken if shown more than once in all air passes. I took video footage of all tests (yes, very long) in order to properly watch TID readouts on multiple passes per inch depth swings. Please note that all TID's currently taken were on the 4" coil only. I still need to test my 8" & 10" coils to ensure identical TID readouts. I also didn't include all the junk readout tests, but have found a few rules posted in the Notes at the bottom.

Hope this helps all you F2 users out there, though I do realize many of you live in the US. If I get enough time and finds, I'll update another sheet with American coinage TID's.

Cheers & HH!!!

Very interesting post Travis.I dont run an f2, but i do run an f4 and f75,these numbers are very close to these machines and explains why I dont dig alot of canadian coins! I did fined a 1 dollar 1989 coin with the f75 and it hit a solid 80 just as your chart shows.Good work and thanx for taking the time to compile this info.it should work for most of the f series.....hh rick in mi.

I'm in Michigan too, .I swing the F70 and the numbers are quite similar...your notes about the jumpy signals on the nickles, dimes and Q's are correct those Canadian pennies sure sound off like a solid dime. Thanks for the effort!

Dug a few Canadian coins on a vacation in Michigan in 2010.
I do remember a modern quarter that was real jumpy between zinc, dime and quarter.

I know you didn't ask, but this might be handy to know, and others might be interested.
Coins are good...gold is better, IMO, and if you don't feel like digging some of those foil, tab, nickel or zinc signals, you might never know what you are missing.

Except for the two large bands on the top left, and the bracelet bottom right, I dug them all.

I am going to get a new fisher this week. Sure wish someone would do a nice chart like that for US currency.

EganWP...thanks for the chart. Alot of people will benefit from it, even though they may not thank you online. Fisher coin ID's regarding canadian coinage is a frequently asked question on FMall. I, and am sure many others, have a great of respect for members who take their personal time & effort to create helpful things like your chart.

Nice I am still trying to figure my F2 out ..... I am getting alot of bleeps but alot of trash ...I guess I need to just keep at it.
