Fisher F2 mod

New member
Hi, has anyone tried this? : http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19242
I would like ground ballance on my F2, but i am kind of afraid of breaking it...

Personally imagine it could be done by trained hands and proper tools but would probably kill your warranty so sort of like shooting your self in the foot and expecting too much from an inexpensive entry level unit...

I am not so sure warranty is the concern. First Texas is very good at pricing after warranty repairs, BUT I'd be VERY surprised if they would touch a unit that had been modified. Of course only the guys who work there can give the definitive response, but I would be shocked if they or any larger company would be willing. In addition, an entry level unit like an F2 would go upside down is shop time costs very quickly. It's yours if you want to mod, have at it. The coil and shaft are recyclable if it toasts.

I did not dream that my warranty would remain after this mod. I only have half of year of it anyway. The F2 is a well built detector and if it came in working condition i do not really worry about the warranty.
It seems a little odd that the difference between resistors is so great: 20 Ohms(fixed, standard) -> 10KOhms(variable, max). The procedure would not be complicated, the hardest thing is peeling off the buttons. But it's my only detector and they are not cheap in my country. That's why i am double-asking...

Kbron2000, i see on geotech that you have the N EL Tornado for the F2. How is it? Have you also tried the Fisher 11" DD (this is what i am using). If you have, what is the difference?
Thanks!

Yes I do, and I love it. Pros---> Really good strong tones vs DD coil, Found lots of targets that my DD coil missed @ the same location.
Cons--> A little heavier than my DD coil, But it doesn't bother me at all, I felt the same thing when I moved from my 8inch coil to the 11inch DD coil.

Thanks for the info. In autumn i will probably buy the Tornado. Here you can see some of my finds : http://detectiemetal.com/gallery/album.php?album_id=27
The arrows, the fork and the spur are dated between 8'th and 14'th centuries. The sword is 17'th-18'th century.
This: http://detectiemetal.com/gallery/album.php?album_id=28 is my only roman ring (probably 1'st century, too expensive to date exactly)
All found with the 11" DD. If you say the N EL Tornado is much better... i HAVE to buy it! (why is N EL censored??)
Cheers!
