hi i am new to this form i have a metal detecting ? does a gold nugget sound the same has a gold ring ? if any one can tell me thanks for your input

There are soooo many variables in gold rings and also gold nuggets.

Rings and gold jewelry can be made of any karat gold which will definitely make it read differently, meaning all gold rings dont even sound the same as each other based on the metal itself, the size and weight included in the mix as well.

Same goes for nuggets. They can vary in size and shape and purity as well. Many times nuggets are also found with co-existing with other metals like iron.

I would say the reason there has been no reply to your question is only because there are too many variables to answer accurately.

Do you already have any gold rings? How about some nuggets? Which are you planning on looking for?

I tried one gram of placier gold and f2 will pick it up but it comes in all over the place usually iron, the 4 inch coil is much more sensitive then the 8 inch on small targets. I have no big nuggets so I can' help you out

I own a F2 also and you would think it would come up between foil - nickel. just as a gold ring would. do you have any thoughts on this?

This could have to do with the alloys in gold rings. I tried a small amount of fine gold and reduced the sensitivity to 2 bars and the unit settled down between iron and foil. Sweep speed makes quite a bit of difference on how the unit registers.
