Fisher Edge Confusion

BioProf

New member
I recently bought my wife an Edge detector. She has to have one where all the electronics are on her belt and this one seemed to fit the bill. Problem is, the instruction manual is crap. It doesn't give you enough information to understand what to do and what it means. If I am going to help her learn to use the machine, I am going to have to understand what is going on. So I could use help with a few things.

When setting the machine up, you can put it in the mode where the Discrimination icon is flashing and you can set it from -36 to +36. I was under the impression that this setting related to the circle they have in the manual that shows you what the VDI numbers mean. Anything below 0 is iron and anything above 0 is a different metal and each has its own range of VDI numbers. If you set the Discrimination at 0, what does that mean? What does it affect in terms of what you see on the display and what you hear. I can't see a difference or hear a difference no matter where the number is set. Someone has mentioned an audio discrimination setting from -36 to +23. There is nothing in the instruction booklet that mentions this. There is no icon to "flash" so you can change it, is there?

She only has the choice of "All Metal," "Notch," or "Factory Preset." What the heck do I set? What does setting it that way do? How do I set it?

Help!!

Thanks,

Daryl
