Fisher detectors from the 80's

Anyone know of a list of Fisher Detectors from back in the 1980's? I met a guy with an older machine and from his description it sounds like a Fisher. I will have more details soon. All I have now is black, white and gold, and the name Fisher sounded familiar to him. It is missing the battery pack and I will try to track one down for him. Best thing about it is his house was built in 1917, neighborhood even older, and I want to dig his yard. Any help I can get him will get me closer to the dig, and his neighbors...

I remember that was like the typical 80's "lunchbox" style unit with a bunch of knobs....
I think it was the 1260x that was the real breakthrough lightweight "design" everyone copied, & continues to copy today with the batteries under the arm cup, etc....(like that 1266x style).
Let me know the model of it, & I can probably find an ad or some info on it as I like to collect old Fishers.

Nice detector for it's time. Two modes, analog meter and a decent discriminator. The one I had was hip mount convertable and had a rechargeable battery compartment. Unfortunately, it did not have the optional Alkaline capability and the rechargeables would not hold a charge for very long periods of time. If the one in question only has the rechargeable batteries, make sure you can get replacements or modify it to accept "modern" cells.

That reminds me of a time when the darn thing went "dead" :stretcher: and my buddy made a find of a lifetime. :hot:

The sad part of the story (for me) is that he found it about three steps beyond where my 555 died! I'll never forget that day. No matter how hard I try!!! HH Randy
