Fisher CZ21 in California gold country

whaleboat

New member
I'm fishing for opinions , does anybody have any thoughts on how the CZ21 might perform in the super highly mineralized soil of the Northern California gold country ? Thanks , Whaleboat

If it is the NEW CZ-21, I wouldn't waste my thoughts on one. From what we have learned from a VERY reliable source, they are NOT a good detector.

Would like to know what "very reliable" source said that the CZ-21's are not a very reliable unit . . . . . . . . since your signature says you have two have they been unreliable for you? I do not have the number of hours on my CZ-21 as I do on my CZ-20 and most assuredly;y my 1280-X which was bought in 1985 and still works without ever having been repaired, but so far the CZ-21 has worked flawlessly.

Can you share any insight that might paint a different picture? I've talked to several people associated with First Texas and no issues came up about actual or perceived reliability problems with the CZ-21 (outside of the original ground balance issue which was corrected and addressed in the assembly process long ago).

Interested in your information as I'm sure are others . . . . . . as there are a number of guys (and a gal or two) I know that use the CZ-21's with pretty impressive results

Ok, Here goes the post that will probably be deleted but ppl want to know. Yes I have 2 Fisher CZ-21's. They were BOTH 20's before I sent them in to be repaired. That is a VERY LONG story and was posted last year.

They are wonderful detectors and I absolutely love them. I would swear by the Fisher CZ-20's.

I was at the great southern shootout with a friend and we went to a seminar hosted by a person that holds patents on two Fisher machines. He works for NASA and I don't know if I should post his name here.

The CZ-21 is an inferior machine to the CZ-20 and he said that. If you get a chance test an old CZ-20 against a new CZ-21, The difference is there and unfortunately it is not the same quality as you would expect.

I think most of us know who you are referring to . . . . great, it is his opinion. In talking to the guys at First Texas who will readily admit there were issues with the first CZ-21's when the move from Los Banos occurred, the issues have been resolved and the quality is back where it was on the CZ-20's . . . . . with some enhancements made based on past problems with the CZ-20's.

As far as the "heads up", I'd check with the factory or other users before you write off getting a CZ-21 . . . .

Andy,

That is great. The ONLY real way to tell is actually to compare them side by side. BUT with the new parts being made in CHINA you still will have to wonder. You can't see the insides and you would be foolish to try, (I did!!)

Its like everything else in life, Some ppl will swear by them and some will swear at them!!! Everyone has an opinion that hopefully is based of facts even though maybe they had a bum machine.

It really is like every other macnine and every other company out there. Some ppl love the Excab and others have had bad luck.

I only base my remarks on what I have seen for myself and what I have heard from an expert in Fisher machines. My one CZ-20 went in 3 times before it was fixed right and my other one twice and it needs to go back. I do love their machines but the issues I had were serious. When you get sent back a machine that you DIDN'T send in you have to wonder about their honesty.

BUT, They did make it right in the end and they have been a super company to deal with for me since that episode, a person just needs to do a field test on BOTH machines to see if they have the same capabilities.

iv owned 3 CZ20's and i bought a new CZ21 last year and found no diff as to how well they work.i do like the touch button pinpoint better on the CZ21 other than that, they were great detectors.never had a problem with any of them.

i bought a new CZ21 last august, when i take it to the beach it's like it doesn't want to ground balance within the 10 digits on the ground balance knob.
it's like it wants to gb at about number 15 but it only goes to 10.is this the gb problem that you are discussing?
i've owned a CZ20 before this and i never had this problem.the new one has a 10" coil and the old 20 had an 8".i thought it might just be that.
i'll be on to the dealer to get it sorted if it's a known problem.

thanks for any info.

shaun.

You may have gotten an old stock unit from the dealer . . . . . . I'd suggest contacting First Texas with the serial number and they could tell from that if yours was in the original batch or if there is an issue that needs to be corrected outside of the GB issue that had initially.

Hope you get it turned around quickly . . . First Texas is really pretty good with repairs and service

Hi,
I've bought a CZ-21 10,5" on December 2008, the first day in the sea water has flooded. Shipped to First Texas, fixed the problem. Is returned with a little problem. When I set the SENSIVITY knob a lot of false signal when I rotate it a bit over 5. First of water flooding it was not so sensible. Is it normal?

However, I use it in salt water ( I'm diver ) and the 5th SENS setting is good enough ( I believe ). Is a great detector, next I will buy the 8".

i've emailed fisher with the serial number but no reply yet.
today i have rang the dealer i got it off and they have said i'll have to send it back to them and they will send it to fisher in the usa(i'm in the uk).
looks like i'm going to be without the machine for at least a couple of months :0(

so i was looking on ebay and saw a used CZ20(they are rare to find over here).it also had a hard carry case for it too.
i bid on it and won it for
