Fisher CZ-3D, Coinstrike or CZ-5 (Which one to buy?)

Hello everyone. I am thinking of buying a Fisher detector and have narrowed it to either a 3D, Coinstrike or CZ-5. I may also consider an I.D. Edge. I plan to mostly hunt old home sites with this unit and perhaps relic hunt. Can someone compare these detectors for depth and overall performance. I know the CZ-5 is discontinued so I would have to buy a used one with no warranty. I had rather buy new so I don't have to worry about spending for repairs for a while. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is the 11" Sunray a good coil, and how would it do around old home sites for target separation? Thanks!

Never used a CZ3d, so I can't speak for it. Have my friends CoinStrike in the garage, used it a bit last fall and summer. Had one of the first CZ-5's and loved it enormously.
Honestly I would love to get another but I have a CZ-7 that suffices until I decide on building a collection of detectors. The Coinstrike seemed a little noisy in areas with hot wires, transformers, etc, but gets great depth in open fields and has excellent id capability. One of our local guru swears by it as he has experienced it in cinder fields where it just seems to cut through that stuff. Haven't got enough experience with the CoinStrike yet to swear by it though.

What mediums are you going to be hunting in?

I recently had the same question and I chose the CZ3d after much research. It came down to that extra feature of enhanced mode. All 3 are nice, but I hear the CZ's (all of them) are killer coin machines.

Basically Analog CZ's are user friendly depth demons that like deep rusty nails with limited ID and no notch just discrimination. Your call on the CZ3D which you can buy new or the CZ5 that has been discontinued but stood the test of time since 93.
Coinstrike on the other hand has a learning period excellent ID and notch, likes rusty round objects and is bothered at times by outside interference and has good depth.
With time in the field you can almost eliminate the the liking of deep rusty nails or rusty round objects as you learn either of the units.
Might want to visit a Fisher dealer for some input to help you make a choice..

I would think if I was after extreme depth would pick a CZ and excellent ID would pick the Coinstrike..Of course just my opinion and have owned and used all of the above 3 units..

I love my Cz3D!!!! Once i figured out what it was telling me. Bam, i am slaying coins outta local parks. At crazy depths too! It is kind of annoying with trashy areas, but once you lock on, you almost know whats in the ground before you dig. I head right to the tot lots and the woodchips and its bing, bing, bing!

Prospector,I have used all three units. The CZ5 and CZ3D are very similar but the CZ5 is probably better in most trashy parks. The Coinstrike is a unit that most hunters don't understand and complain that it isn't a very good detector. The Coinstrike will work well but it isn't a CZ and requires an effort to learn.Your question which one they are all good metal detectors find a local club or dealer and try all three.

Have owned a C$ and a CZ6a (CZ5 without a speaker). Both are excellent machines. Just depends on what type of detecting you are doing and how much experience you have. The C$ is a excellent machine and will surprise you at times. Most complaints about the C$ are from people who don't understand how to operate it or have not spent enough time using it. The C$ does not work well in city parks where power line/transformers etc.. are present. The CZ's work well anywhere but love deep iron but with experience one can overcome this problem too. Both units are about the same depth wise. The CZ with the 12 inch Sunray is a winning combo on the beach when hunting in all metal. If you can try before you buy than that would even be better. You can't go wrong with either of the 3 units.

Good luck,
Ray(Ca)
