Fisher Coinstrike Issue?

BarryL

Active member
Picked up a coinstrike from a fellow . I have pulled up the online manual and did the Factory Preset and everything seems to be working ok on the screen but I get no target response at all it has the 8 in coil any suggestions never owned a fisher before but it is in pretty nice shape and I have researched it a little and don't find too many bad ratings on it Thanks for any help . I am thinking maybe a bad coil ?

Don't think the coil is bad now since I can get an overload signal . Somewhere in the settings I am not setting something right apparently. When I do the FP setup I see double 00 which I think is zero disc but still no Target response . It has to be me so help needed Thanks

Hang on my brother MarkCZ has had problems with one of his coinstrikes, maybe he will pick up on your post when he gets home from work and offer up some help. I know his had a bad coil and it was acting crazy.

Thanks Ron It is weird I have set and read through the manual and did all the setting like it states . It will overload so I know the cil is working . Like I said but just want see a target no matter what it is I hopw Mark can shed some light on it for me . I just know its got be something I am not setting right ?

Well maybe not, I don't know the first thing about the coinstrike except they are good deep machines and a little odd to operate. So I would guess you have one with a bad coil, you may want to try and locate another coil to try. I remember Mark's was shipped in to my house and I tried to make it go and I was getting a tone that sounded like a telephone ringing. I am thinking Mark's buddy had one so they exchanged coils.

Good luck

I was surprised That I did get an answer from Mark but That's OK he may be working long hours. I am thinking on the lines of a bad coil as well . Just cant figure out what could make a coil just go bad that way unless the had some bad components or something. Anyway being primarily a Tesoro User I am not going to spend a lot of money on it . Like I said everything works except the coil . So I will post it on the forum for sell at a good price iif someone wants to add it to their fisher arsenal. Thanks anyway

Make sure you don't have everything notched out.

Can you post a picture of your settings?

Mike I would but it is in Route to fisher also I was going by step by step in the manual ans set it up just like it said to do in FP mode like the tech told me as well but still no good so Felix said I t was the coil more than likely thanks for the help though

Okay, I'm her now LoL!

Lets look back at the factory preset you used.
First off, in that setting the detector should have hit on the upper range US coins really well from a distance of 2" to 6" easily and gave good response!
Now, for the but!

The preset set program in the Coinstrike is set WAY to hot for a new user. So, in that mode at worst you may have had problems with EMI or a bit of erratic behavior, but nothing to have kept it from responding to the coins. (assuming the coins were not Canadian)

So, just based on that alone tells a story of a possible problem.

The CS (Coinstrike) is really easy to operate unless in a case like yours were it seems to be somewhat working and the user seems lost at gaining control.
The basics for coin hunting, excluding nickels. (just starting out, or to say practice settings, advance users can work up from here)

Fresh Batteries, properly installed.
Set the disc control to 99, (that's only iron disc anyway)
Set the sensitivity to 5 to maybe 6
Set the threshold to -20 to -30
Notch out everything, (this for practice leaves only the upper coin range)
Salt mode OFF
All-Metal OFF
Averaging OFF

Now, it ALL the cases that I've came across (heard or read about) were problems were reported with the CS it came down to the coil!

now, if it is the coil its possible that First Texas may not have a replacement so, that could lead to you searching around for a used on. My first CS I had (used) came with a bad coil, I found a used on this forum for $40.00 (that was a deal). I messed and messed with that thing trying to get it to work, when I got the replacement coil you could set it up in ANY order to were it would respond to an upper range coin.

The CS is a pretty darn good detector and when it came out it was ahead of its time, but more and more I'm convinced that out of the box, or fresh off the line they were more than normal coil problems.

Keep us updated!

Mark

First Line,

I was trying to say,
After I got the replacement coil there wasn't any possible arrangement of settings that could be dialed up that it wouldn't hit on a upper range coin.

Mark everything was set as you stated except I had sens at 7 and threshold minus10 also tried it with everything notched out and nothing notched out got no response either way as for as emi I was not anywhere near any high voltage and down at the lake next to the grass and "dry Sand" never had any emi problems there . But put that coil over smashed coke can and bam instantly OL on panel like I said everything on the control seems to work without any problems . I even checked the plug on the coil to make sure no wire was broke. So finally called fisher and talked to Felix and boxed it up and sent it and he ask if I was the original owner I laughed and said no . He got quiet and then said thank you for being Honest about that and assured me he would be gentle on charges if at possible. They got it today so hopefully will hear from them by Monday. I have owned a CZ5 in the past and wished I had it back. The coin$trike is a different animal for sure but does not seem to be that difficult to master .I do know I will have to put in a lot of hours with it . But who knows it could be on the market for sell cheap after I get it a clean bill of health . LOL I am mainly a Tesoro Guy anyway, just sold my Atpro set up waiting on the new Tesoro to come out. Thanks for you help and I appreciate your time. Now you can go back to the other forum LOL

Five year warranty, lifetime warranty, original owner doesn't really matter because Fisher doesn't warranty old Fishers lifetime warranty, and unless you bought it recently as New Old Stock the five year warranty is GONE. The main reason he probably ask if you were the original owner is because he may have been able to ask you some question to what happened between the time it was working and then stopped, or was it like that when you got it out of the box. Telling him you go tit used meant you didn't have the history of it.

When you get it back and if its gets repaired or if its just the coil and you can find one I wouldn't give up on it, try to get it working and give it enough time to at lest learn it then make a decision to keep it or move it along. The first one I had, had the bad coil and more than once I felt backed into a corner with it, I couldn't make it work, I had to much money in it to put anymore in it, it was to messed up to try and sell it to my worst enemy and sleep at night. So, I kept trying and trying, I'd put it down for a few days and dry up the tears (I was to near tears with that thing) Then my co-working gets a CS and is telling me how well he loves his :look: and I'm thinking that wasn't possible. So, finely we met up I tried his and he tried mine, his ran like a dream, he didn't want to run mine for more than 2 minutes (all along before we met up he thought I was a nut). Then I said well lets switch control housings, BAM! his ran like crap and mine purred right along!!!! :jump: So, I started a search for another coil and as soon as I hooked it up I never had another problem with it. Now my new one that I have I got it New Old Stock and its supposed to have a five year warranty, I sent the warranty card in, I hope I don't need to have it serviced.

Dave Johnson of First Texas told me one time that the coils for the CS were hard to make, he didn't really elaborate any farther??

Hope you get it back fixed and all is well.

Mark

Thanks Mark Guess I will have to wait and see hope to hear from them this week on cost to repair . I have been reading and searching it on the net and have found more pros than cons on it so hope to have a good machine in my Arsenal IF it is the coil and they want to much to repair I guess I will go on the hunt for a coil Thanks again

I hope the Coinstrike works out for you. I've owned 3 of them and it's the most underrated detector of all time in my opinion. Stable, deep, especially on Indian Heads. Likes rusty round objects but I can handle that. Great detector. -Jay

Barry
How did things work out with the Coinstrike? I believe this detector is under rated, its a very simple tone ID. For me A few areas that were iron infested trash the coinstrike was stable, successful. Its one of my favorite detectors in the arsenal.
there is a wealth of knowledge here on this form to master this detector, I hope you have it up and running in the Field.

Michael It is still at fisher Have not been contacted as of Friday been there since the 2-20 14 called and they told me last Monday that waiting on techs to check it maybe I will here something this week

well just got a call from Felix at Fisher informed me the Coin$trike coil was fine and the problem was in the control head . Two electronic parts were bad total cost to repair is $92.00 for parts Labor and Tax I guess that's not to bad . Should get it back by Monday of next week. Eager to try it out, have a trip the end of the month to a Place in Archer City Texas at an Old Ghost town. Its on Private property so not sure if its been searched or not but I don't care just happy to get to hunt it

Ahh good news to hear! Good luck happy hunting with the Coinstrike, post the finds, don't be shy about asking questions there are lots of friendly people here with a wealth of information.

Michael

The Coinstrike must be a cult type detector. People either love them or hate them no in between?

This is because people only want to learn easy things in life if its to hard they tend to give up as they did with the c$ this is why there are different type of people, thank god.
