FISHER COINSTRIKE COMPARED TO THE MINELAB EXPLORER

How does the Fisher Coinstrike compare to the Minelab Explorer for depth and ability to find coins masked in trashy areas?
thanks,
John B.

John,
I've owned both (still own the Explorer) and was not satisfied with the C$'s performance in MY area. I want to make the point that I am NOT bashing the C$. It could have been the operator... <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> I had a well documented problem of hot rocks hitting in the 20's. For me, the C$ was an inconsistant performer. But, on the other side of the 'camp'... there are alot of people doing great with the C$. Both have their strengths in trash. The Explorer with it's DD coil can sniff out coins close to trash. The C$ is also a strong performer in trash too... if the C$ works well in your area it might be the better pick for trash areas judging from comments on this forum. Both machines have a learning curve... but, I think both will reward you well with a little patience and practice. The Explorer has had it's share of people who couldn't get the performance out of it they thought they should. I would seriously suggest that you try to find someone with which ever machine you are leaning towards (or both) and see if you can hunt together. Take what I say with a grain of salt, because of the difference in soil and user preferences can make a big difference as to which is better. Sometimes it's soil that makes the difference sometimes it's just a matter of personal preference. I would also suggest posting in the Explorer forum to get a balance of opinions. But, it all does go back to what works in one area may not in another. Just keep that in mind.

Hi John
I have put in alot of hours on the XS and I am racking up hours on the C$. First let me say this, both detectors are top of the line and either would make a good choice. Here is my two bit opinion as of this date on the two, which is subject to change as I spend more time with the C$.
In areas with high soil minerialization or salt water beach, with low to medium trash content, I would give the Explorer the edge. It has a slow sweep speed and in the advanced mode you can use the learn program, with the small cursor to reject or accept specific targets.
In areas with low to moderate minerialization with a high trash content I would give the C$ the edge. It has a moderate to fast sweep speed and super fast target processing software. The C$ does not loose any depth switching from all metal to disc mode, or vise versa, and the digital display is the same in either mode.
To be fare I must also state that this is just one site that I used both detectors on, and the out come could be different at another site under different conditions. The fact is that either of these detectors will find keepers, and both have a learning curve and they will both do exactly what your adjustments tell them to do. The trick is to understand the information received from the target and make a decission to dig or not dig. Everytime you dig a target you increase your chances of finding an old coin, or gold jewerly.
I like both detectors and to be honest, I think they are the two best coin and jewerly shooters on the market. TB

you know i too use a xs and tonite bought a coinstrike really anxious to try it out
