Fisher Coil Question

No it shouldn't work . You can try them without fear of hurting anything but I doubt it will work right.

I would disagree, Bart.

As long as the connectors are the same, the F5 coil should work fine on the G2 and the Goldbug Pro.

The G2/Goldbug use the same coils as the Tek series, and the F5 and Tek Omega can share the same coils as long is the connectors are the same, so therefore, the F5 coil will work on the G2/Goldbug Pro.

The early F5's had a plug in style coil but the new ones have been updated to take the threaded connector like the Omega uses.

Mike is right, the key is connector compatibility. Otherwise the coils are the same. All the coils for FT's various 7.8 kHz detectors are interchangable, as long as the connectors are compatible.

The F5 switched to the threaded screw-on coil connector from the push-in type starting with units produced sometime around summer 2010.

IdigMt, you didn't specify what kind of connector your F5 has. If your F5 coil has the earlier style push-in unthreaded connector, it won't work with the G2 since they all have the threaded connector.

LOL .... just as a side note, the F5 stock coil also works on the G2 / Gold Bug SE / Pro.

My F5 stock coil had the push in connector, but I took it off and connected a 5 pin screw connector to it so that I could us it on the Gold Bug Pro that I have and save some $$$ on a new coil. It works well too btw.

The pins on the push in plug are wired a little different to the 5 pin screw in type, so a straight though patch lead will not work unless you know how to wire it up.

Thanks fellows-- all helpful. I do have the push-in connector on my F-5. Say, BH_Landstar_ , could you describe the wiring hookup you used ( would the same hookup as used for your F-5 stock coil, work for the plug-in 5-inch coil)? Also where could one get a screw-in connector? If I can do this and save, I might be able to afford the Goldbug Pro DP, or the Teknetics G2 with the 11-inch .DD coil, to use for some serious nugget shooting. If wiring instructions are too long for the forum, a PM would be good. Again, thanks for any help!

Fisher will change the plug connector over for you at little or no charge. Just them you are having a problem with it
