Fisher 552?

What is the difference between the Fisher 552 and 555 and 440 series detectors? Are these vlf machines with modulated audio? Could you hunt with them today,or are they just a fun old collectable? Thanks.

The 555 series detecto was at one time Fishers top machine, it was a VLF detector and the audio single tone don't know about mod. audio. Powerful machine went deep took a little getting used to a lot of adjustment and re-tuning depth was fantastic for the time once you new the machine. Bad with high minerals in Disc mode but once you learned hoe to REVERSE Discriminate you had it made, and using it in the water at a fresh water beach the depth was unbelievable, got to the point where I didnt pay attention to the audio response while in the water I would concentrate on needle fluctuation, just a hair movement of the needle and I'd dig deep for silver coin or gold rings. Now heres the kicker I've had the Fisher 555-D since it came out with an 8" & 11" coil and took it off the pole and made it a hip mount, they sold a kit back then, and believe it or not I still use it in the water when at a fresh water beach that has been worked pretty good it will find those deep targets others have missed, and I will never get rid of mine. Hope that helps.
