Fisher 1280x N.C. Beaches ???

peg leg red

New member
Need help!!!Just bought a fisher 1280x and am going to be on beach and shallow water..To get used to this machine are there any tips and tricks on settings or anything else I could use after I hit the on button.. any and all advice is welcome, except, if I made a bad choice don't tell..... What is a good digging device for shallow water? Lookin' for find #1 Thanks.."peg leg red"

Cool beans Red!That machine should do the trick. To get used to how the machine works.make a test bed.Scan a ring a penny a quarter a dime a nickle a beer can a nail and so on.Get used to what the machine is telling you. Then hit a school yard or park with a garden spade and get a little practical use with it.As far as a water scoop goes, you are going to need something heavy duty for wet sand and water.Get either a stainless steel or aluminum scoop with a long handle and a large opening, like 6"bucket.When hunting the dry sand for change, those scoops made from chicken wire work very well.I'll try to get up with you soon and help you out with some tips and such.
Congrats on the Fisher!Hermit

Peglegred,Check this harness out.#9702997641.I use this instead of belt mount. They work great.
Also check this scoop #5815101807.Something of this nature is what you'll need for the water and wet sand.
Looks like you got a nice package with that 1280x.
Talk to you soon. Hermit

Hermit, I'm excited... can't wait to be in water or on beach...i appreciate the offer for advice / help... i know i will need it...
I talked to the seller for about 30+ min. He is from Az. and no longer hunts..this one is about 6 yrs. old... that scares me some.
What is average life span.. He seemed to know what he was talking about care etc... Hasen't been used for 2 yrs. stored without batteries etc.. He said to lubricate battery seal with vaseline . I read somewhere that is not best lubricant ? Will need info on storage care etc.. I hope he did it right... He also offered his wife's machine to 2nd. bidder don't know if he bought or not.. hers had red. earphones .. mine are black supposedly a later model.
I checked out the chest harness and scoop.. they look good what about price for these items.Should I anticipate any problems with machine this old ?What usually goes wrong first with detectors in general? Can you tell i'm excited ??? hope to have it by wed.. will probably be at beach thurs. next week thru tues. of the next..gonna have my first pull top by then I promise.... thanks for your help,, "peg leg red"

Hermit , Did you get to "make shadows on the beach" yet this weekend?/ My wife went down and said weather is nice ..water temp has to be coming up..what the heck.. i'm bringing my jet ski wet suit.. What have you found lately? "P L R"

I had to work this weekend. The beaches are pretty sanded right now.The water temp is 52.I'm off next Weds,Thurs,Sunday.Maybe we
could hook up one of those days.I'd be glad to share some tips and techs with you.Do not use any petrolium product on the seal.Use silicone.I have a huge can of the stuff.I'll give you a lifetime supply.

Don't use vaseline, use silicone grease. I got some from Lowe's in the plumbing section for about $3.00
