Fisher 1280x flooding problems

Are there others with Fisher water detectors that flooded the control box after use underwater? I have not read any, but MY experiences would indicate there are some that nobody is talking about?

I recently had 2 new fisher 1280x detectors, in a row, fail on their first use underwater !#$#$%%$&. How can this be, they say they are all pressure tested at the factory. Really? Waterproof to 250'? Lot of wasted time and money for a detector that should work as advertised.

Base on that statistic, they must be flooding them all? I had two older 1280s that i thought were bullet proof and i never had a problem with them having used them both wading and scuba. How much confidence should i have if i buy another new 1280x or CZ detector. I don't have a lot of confidence in this company.

Anyone else out there with similar stories?

I've had a Fisher coin jewelry detector a few years back that would cut in and out (power). Sent it back and when returned, same thing. I sold it and have mostly Tesoro's now for water and land.
I did have a CZ 21 for a while with no issues, but didn't use it a lot. Seemed solid though.
I hope you get your issue straightened out.

Ive never heard of a 1280 failing but ive never owned one either... if new and under warranty i assume you are covered... sometimes manufacturing materials or processes change and the consumer gets to do the job of quality control as it doesn't seem as though many companies know what that position is anymore,however that might not be the case either... is there any chance this detector is sitting in a car baking in the sun then being submerged in cold water as ive heard drastic temperature changes greatly increase the chances of this kind of failure... i hope the 3rd time is a charm... best luck... is it impossible to improperly install the gasket? you are not alone as the new whites water unit has been having simular problems ...

Have had this happen one time to me but thank The man upstairs I new how to fix the issue and it wasnt a saltwater issue at the time. The issue I had was I purchased a used 1280x and installed new batteries and took it on a lake hunt. the faceplate where your controls are leaked. the unit had been taken aprt before and not resealed. . Another thing to check is make sure you have 4 screws with rubber orings in the battery compartment under the foam strips. those are the issues I had. Always enjoyed fisher units. sometimes things like this happen but dont let it deter you into another.

I had one leak twice. I got rid of it the second time and got a CZ-20.
