Fisher 1280-X

How good is the discrimination?
I want to buy a water detector that has the ability to discriminate out heavy iron and highly mineralized soil. The Fisher 1280-X appears to be one that might work, but, I would like to hear from someone who owns one. I live in Northern Calif. where lakes and creeks can play havoc with a metal detector due to the high iron and mineral content. Thanks for any advice. Planchkr

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for gold then the discrimination will cancel it. If you are looking for coins then it will pretty much eliminate the iron and allow most coins but not nickles. That was my experience. Others may have more info.

I find the same true of nearly all machines I have used. The Excalibur will give different sounds so you can pretty much tell when it is iron.

Yes, I am looking or gold rings, etc. It is not uncommon to run into
patches of black sand, which my DFX can handle, but you say I may be able to hear the sound difference between this black sand and a gold ring while using the Excalibur?

Thanks of the input I really appreciate it.

gold, nickels, pull tabs, alum. pieces, thin copper..............a sound u will soon learn

pennies - higher
quaters - high and nice silver rings
some of the newer bottle caps

it nulls over iron................but it will let u know it, and it will give u a double beep or cherp on some, especially if it is round like key ring or cheapie earring

"THE EXCALIBUR"

now i am not knocking the 1280............tested truce machine, just behind in the times so to speak..............TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THE DETECTOR PRO WADER.........it is a 1280 reboxed with some mods.
