Fisher 1280 X good detector???

On the Fisher 1280 X i am thinking of getting one . Is it a good detector i will only be hunting fresh water . I don;t dive i go chest high at times and want a water detector. Don't tell me to use a land detector and keep it dry that would never work for me. So any thing you can tell me about the 1280 X i would like to hear.

thats what my grandad used all the time for water hunting and land.
iv used it also.
its a good detector. i used the 10.5 spider coil on it.
its a single tone detector but after a little time you can hear that good targets make a smoother tone than junk.
if you disc out irion the low conductor targets like little foil will have a crackle pop sound in the tone.
i like the detector and have seen it pull hundreds of rings and things in the hands of my grampa.
if i was going to get a water detector i would get a old cz20 or maybe a new cz21 but im not sure about the cz21. but you would have a good detector with the 1280X just a little harder to learn the sound imo.

For years one of the best freshwater units around, built like a tank and goes deep...Tesoro probably a little hotter on small gold but certainly not the depth...I believe one would serve you well....

I was looking at a used CZ 20 but called Fisher and if you have to send it in for anything they want to update all the CZ 20 to a CZ 21.And that could cost you a big buck they said that the CZ20 had some inner failures, So they would put CZ21 parts in. So you might as well buy a CZ21. But thanks for all the replys > I will more than likely end up With a 1280 X was looking at the Excalibur but a lot of bucks for just out in fresh water.

.
I don't see how you could go wrong with a 1280-x, gadabout...
They are built like a tank and will pay for themself !
More than that, you couldn't ask. :)

I like the smaller 8" coil, though.
The 10.5 may be deeper, but it's kinda floppy in use. YMMV

Good luck

If your just starting. Go with 1280. As previously mentioned different targets have differing noises. You will learn bobby pins from bottle tops to pennies and other change. I owned it and the quicksilver. I think I had a cz20. My problem with the quicksilver was that it well....seemed like it lost depth. I didn't give it a fair chance. In all honesty...but I will say this.

I sent one brand new one back and the vendor said they couldnt find anything wrong with it. And the new one I got in its place was same in terms of performance.

If you get into it and payoff your 1280...rent a cz21 and use it for a week or two before buying. I know the 1280 is probably one of the best water machines around. Hope this helps.

I have had a 1280 for 14 years and have never had any problems with it at all. I have tried all the other water machines and see no reason to change. The 1280 does all I need it to do.
