Fisher 1280 Aqua... Question.

TigerNed

New member
I'm getting back into detecting this year and I've always been more into water hunting than land, but I do enjoy both. I used to hunt mostly fresh water so I was a die hard Tesoro Tiger Shark user. I could hunt salt water beaches, but I couldn't get the Tiger to work very well in the actual surf. Here in New England, our beachs are very tough on a number of detectors......

I do remember seeing a gent, using a 1280 Fisher, and he seemed to do very well with it in the surf. Does anyone here from the Connecticut area or surrounding New England States have any imput or experiences using the 1280 in the oceans here, particulary Long Island Sound...

Thanks. Tiger Ned

Hey Tiger Ned,

I have a 1280X and I hunted the LI Sound one time, had to turn the sensitivity down to between 5 and 7 when I was in the water to keep it from falsing/ chattering. At the other beaches in NY and NJ when I am in the water I can keep it more near 7. In the wet sand where there is no water splashing onto the coil you won't have to turn it down as much. I always stay away from allowing the actual crash of the wave to hit the coil it falses too much. I am either totally in the water or out.
Good Luck!

I hear that Glenn, and I was afraid of that. For me to get the Tiger Shark to run stable in salt water around here, I'de have to turn down the Sens so much, it wasn't worth the hunt.

I'm thinking I'm just going to go back to the Minelab Excal....Can't go wrong with that.
