Fisher 1270

Have just recently got hold of a 1270. Previously had a Coinstrike, CZ3D and 1236X2.

I am very pleased with the 1270, especially the iron discrim - similar to the Coinstrike in that regard - does it affect depth on the 1270? It was not supposed to on the Coinstrike.

How do people use the 1270 - I seem to have found it best to run in all metal as standard, and then check targets in either normal or iron discrim? Any thoughts on this?

Has anyone any views on how the 1270 compares in depth with the Coinstrike?
I basically got rid of the Coinstrike because of the membrane switches, but it was a very deep machine.

95% of my time on the 1270 has been for fresh water wading and I use iron disc exclusively. Set at 4 on the iron disc the 1270 double beeps on nails and will see small gold jewelry at amazing depths in deep sand when listening for the whisper signals, so yes, low iron disc settings definitely add depth and sensitivity. I have found more chains with it than any of the "water detectors" I have used. Oh yeah, no bobby pins and most bottle caps can be ID'd by sound, I really like that!

I have used the 1270 for close to a year until i bought the edge. i have found it to have superior depth even with the sensitivity set low. its not rare to find small objects like buttons over a foot deep. i purchased a 10.5" coil for it and that opened up the depth even more. i have pulled mason jar lids from holes shoulder deep. i don't think you will be disappointed at all.

as far as which mode to run in. i guess its all in the soil. where i hunt there is too much iron in the ground to run in all metal. i normally run in normal disc mode and "switch" to iron to give a positive id on my targets. if i find that its not picking up the smaller objects i ill run the sensitivity a little higher.

hope this helps. HH
Mike
